February 26 – Another Video Done?

Posted by SplitSuit On February - 26 - 2010

Holy Jesus this week went by quickly. I am shocked the week is almost over, and the year, is almost 1/6th over. Damn time flies. Hopefully those of you that listened to my last podcast enjoyed it. In case you didn’t check the post below this one. I talked about my opinions on the current game and also the different styles with respect to variance, possible WR, etc. It’s only 28minutes, and there is a DL link as well.
.
So I mentioned previously that my awesome idea video was a bust. I have officially tweaked it in every possible way I can think of it just will not work. I would estimate I have spent about 35hrs total (I have literally recreated the back-end of it 4 separate times)…and I vow to waste no more time with it. I might try again later if I can get a copy of Captivate or something, but as of now, the project is on pause. I decided to record a 1/2hr session at 50NL RUSH and I think it came out really well. Lots of cool spots to talk about, and I only ran 17/15 3B: 11% Sqz: 15%, which felt fairly tight tbh, lol. The video came out to 72minutes after I paused the video a ton and talked through some of the spots in detail, so hopefully it gets received well.
.

.
Ended up getting a spurt of motivation today to do a video (I have 2 videos coming out in March). Noidea555 was nice enough to let me use his DB, and we ran through it for about 45minutes. We pretty much reviewed how to find leaks, where to drill down if need be, and also went into some detail in the position tab to pinpoint some leaks that were hard to see in the general tab. I’m not sure how I feel about the video yet, and I might decide to redo the audio as I mispoke a few times, which puts me on lifetilt. So we’ll see…I’ll give it a watch through tomorrow and see how I like the “finished” product.
.
Also went out today and played some disc golf. I have been coaching like a fiend this week (I’ve done 10 coaching hours and still have 4 left)…and needed the break away from the computer. Finally went out and got myself some new championship discs. It was the first time using a putt/approach disc, and I must say, I think it will change my game. It gives me more flexibility from 20-45ft, which should help be ping a few extra birdies per round. But sadly it was windy as all hell today, which made playing insanely hard. O well, still fun and necessary.
.
That is going to be it from me. I am going to crash out and get some sleep before waking up early (10a, lol). Hope all is well!

February 25 – Podcast 2: Thoughts On Current Games And Styles

Posted by SplitSuit On February - 25 - 2010

It seemed that people enjoyed the last podcast, so I figured I would make another one. This one answers some of Anthony’s questions from the first podcast’s comments. I talked about the differences between FR and 6max, and also which game is best from a WR v hourly standpoint. I also talked about my views on play styles from a WR, variance, and also growth perspective. Hopefully you enjoy it!

February 22 – Lifetilt

Posted by SplitSuit On February - 22 - 2010

So the video is apparently not going to happen. I cannot figure out why, all I know is that Camtasia wants it to fail, and thus it fails. I need to find someway to do it, and will, but now need to crank out a very quick video and I have nothing written. On top of that I have about a million coaching hours this week, minimal time, and now a bunch of stress that I did not want. Sorry to the complaining, but figured I would share.
.
Technology is great…but when it randomly bugs itself, it can make you want to set fire to everything.
.
A video (of the song I will listen to for the next 10hrs while I make a new video) to make up for this stupid post:

February 20 – Video Is Done!

Posted by SplitSuit On February - 20 - 2010

Sorry for the lack of updates this week. I did the podcast on Tuesday or w/e and totally got sidetracked all week. Ended up having a super busy coaching week, and after tomorrow I think I will have reached 14hrs or so (before I factor in protege time)….so it has been a lot of work. Also spent an insane amount of time with this video. Oddly enough, it is only a 20minute video (if you watched it front to back, but the actual time spent on the video for most people will be like 12minutes)…but it probably took me about 16hrs to make.
.

lol

.
It took me forever to figure out the full backend of the video. And then when I tried to add a custom intro to it, that effed everything up and I had a totally busted video. After an addy and about 40 minutes of lifetilt I just scrapped the intro and everything worked again. *sigh* So even though this video took forever to make, a lot of the time was spent learning how to make it, what works v doesn’t, etc. My future videos will benefit greatly from this, lol.
.
The rest of the week was spent relaxing in between the back end work. Played disc golf on Thursday (only got a 63, boo that noise) though realized my putting was pretty trashy…so I have some work to do. Finally got my oil changed (I thought it had only been like 4mo since I got it done last, turns out it has been around 8, oops), and also this damn parking sticker off my car (again, another 9mo thing). And went down to the strip today to meet up with Mpimp and have lunch. Good time, very relaxing, and always nice to see how a poker player balances wife/kid/job…
.
Alright, that is enough for me. I need to go prep a session and then take a long nap (only got 4hrs of sleep last night)…Hope all is well guys!

February 14 – Happy Valentines Day?

Posted by SplitSuit On February - 14 - 2010

The last few days have been really solid. Got lots of work accomplished and actually got to relax a little bit, which was nice. Sadly, as tired as I was on Friday when I wrote my last blog post I couldn’t fall asleep to save my life. So instead of getting a nice sleep, I rolled around for 4hrs trying to force myself to sleep. Same thing happened last night as well. And I hope that it doesn’t happen tonight. I went to gym earlier in hopes of making sure I sleep well being I have a student at 10a, and I haven’t had to wake up that early in a little while, lol.
.
Spent a lot of Saturday coaching. Had 2 students and then spent some hours discussing coaching with my group and also prospective students. After that I had to take a lot of the day off due to my computer being super slow. I was uploading my Stox video, producing my Tank session, and those each are fairly intensive. So did some light scripting for my new video and then bummed around eatting and play H3 for most of the night. No complaints at all tbh.
.
Today I decided to cancel my Tank. I didn’t have enough people lined up for it (which I blame my donk self for choosing a stupid day to do it, lol), so I slept in and woke up for a student at 4p. After that got more scripting done (a little over 1/2 done, all hands created, and images all created). This video should be siiiiiiiiiick if it all goes to plan. It is actually pretty damn hard to make on the backend given the details involved, but if done correctly, it will be awesome. So hopefully I can finish that up early this week so I can focus on getting my own product off the ground which has been on hold since doing all these Stox videos.
.
Well that is enough from me. I am going to crash out. Hopefully you had a solid Vday, and enjoy the song I’ve been listening to none stop:

The Tank: Hand Reading

Posted by SplitSuit On February - 14 - 2010

Poker Hand Reading

$40

This is The Tank session from 2/11/2010. In this Tank we cover hand reading for about 2 hours. We walk through hand reading preflop from nits, TAGs, and other player types from different positions and in various situations. We also talked about the various stats you can use to piece together a clear picture of a player’s range.
.
We then took it one step further and worked on hand ranging postflop. Using stat clues and player type tendencies, we figure out how a range changes throughout a hand. This Tank is great for people just starting to work on hand ranges, but also for those that need some work improving upon their skillset. Happy grinding!

February 12 – OMG I Am Exhausted

Posted by SplitSuit On February - 12 - 2010

I am beyond tired right now but wanted to write a quick blog post before I passed out. I spent the entire day finishing recording for this video, doing another 6hrs of editing, and all on fairly minimal sleep. I am probably going to crash out in a few minutes, which is very lame for a Friday night, but w/e, lol.
.
Thursday I got up and got a session of disc golf in after some Cr-EAT-E. Actually played my best round ever at 58 on 18 holes. It was a gorgeous day at about 72* with like no wind at all. Was nice to see how I do with no wind as every other session was fairly blustery. Had some very powerful drives, and binked 2′s on 3 holes. Once I get a little more consistent, I might try out some of the bigger courses that Vegas has to offer. But getting out of the house every week to play has been amazing and necessary.

Got home about 3p and spent the time answering emails and doing some final prep on the Tank session. I have been getting swamped with emails the last few days as apparently I am on the top part of the coaching sine wave, lol. Lots of LeakFinders and Table Captain Packagers have been coming through, so I have my work cut out for me in the next few weeks. The Tank went very well imo, have been getting lots of good reviews from those who attended, which always ups the confidence level a little bit. Oddly enough spent 2hrs just going over 10 hands, but doing some pretty good analysis on hand ranges pre and postflop and building some nice lines. There are also spots open for the Tank on Sunday going over blind play using PT3 for those that are interested!
.
I tried to finish recording the video last night, but ended up finishing it this afternoon instead. It took me forever to record it because it is a beast of a video. Only 35minutes, but goes over things like stabbing and facing CR’s which are tough to explain and require a lot of “check this and do that” stuff over and over given player types, boards, etc. Finally finished the editing stuff a little while ago, and am now just taking a mental vacation. I have 2 students tomorrow so I might just crash and have a 12hr sleep before I wake up for them, lol.
.
Hope all is well!

February 10 – I Am Almost Done

Posted by SplitSuit On February - 10 - 2010

…with this damn script. It is putting me on effing life tilt for some odd reason. It is for some odd reason really hard to explain some of the pots that I fight for on the flop. Trying to explain clearly why stabbing in certain spots is profitable is fairly difficult. It has forced me to go back and run EV analysis on a bunch of different lines, re-check my DB, and run a variety of test given board textures + our hand. The video should be sick, if for nothing more than just the bluff CR-ing section…but it is a bear of a video to write so far.
.

null
.

I also got the greenlight from Stox to do the innovative video idea I mentioned a few posts back. I should have that video released next Saturday. I have to do a little work for that video, both on getting some good hands together and also scripting/organizing…but it should be fun to create and even more fun to be a part of.
.
All this poker work has been amazing. I have my protege group in chat at all hours, I have been scripting and/or framing videos all month, and all that being done between students. It only sucks because I have very little time for sessions, though was able to finally put in a 4tabling RUSH session on Monday. Should have recorded it actually because the session had a few decent AI pots and some really nice action spots. I actually ran tight as hell for me (15/13), but kept a nice 68% ATS and 64% steal success, lol.
.
Also got my entire Tank prepped for tomorrow. There are still a couple spots left if people are interested. The whole thing will be on hand reading and the examples I got together should help significantly for anyone struggling with hand reading preflop or postflop. Hopefully it should be fun and helpful as the other ones have been =)
.
Hope all is well!

February 8 – Dear Sklansky:

Posted by SplitSuit On February - 8 - 2010

I would like to take out a loan against the Sklansky bucks I have lost over the last 2 years please =)
.
Went to the strip to watch the Superbowl. Had a quick lunch then went down to the sports book to get a seat. I’m not totally sure why I was surprised that there were no seats available (even though I was an hour early to kickoff). O well. Figured I would play live and watch it in the poker room. I didn’t even make it to kickoff before being down my first buyin, lol.
.
200NL: I overlimp 77 and see a 5 way flop of Ks 7h 4s. BB bets $6, folds to me and I raise to $21, folds to BB who calls (he has about $190 left, I cover). Turn is a 5c. He checks, I bet $42, he CR’s to $125, I snap shove and he snap calls. He proudly tables Js6s and hits a nice Qs on the river. So there is one 70/30.
.
200NL: I overlimp 8s6s, a lady with $150 small ISO’s to $10, all fold to me who happily calls OOP (I cover). Flop Ts 4c 2s. I donk $10, she minR’s, I giggle and call. Turn is an 8h. I donk for $10 again thinking she would minR or w/e. She raises to $35, I call and brick the river (just c/f). She shows AA, I am not shocked.
.
200NL: I overlimp Ah6h and see a 6 way pot. Flop is Th 9c 3h. BB bets $8, I raise to $31, random callybox calls IP, and BB calls (callybox and I are about $240 deep, BB has $35 left). Turn is a 9d, BB shoves for $35, I call, callybox folds (lol, wtf?). River is a Q and I lose to QJo. 78/22 there.
.
Just some other crap throughout (lost AQ v KK aipf against a spaz, never hit a single pair when I opened, etc). O well. It just sucks to lose playing live. First, because playing live is the equivilant to playing Hungry, Hungry Hippos controlling 3 hippos…and secondly because it would take years upon years to ever get a sample size. *sigh*

hippos
