June 30 – A Very Quick Post Before Bed

Posted by SplitSuit On June - 30 - 2010

A list of things that have happened in the last few days:
.
- Met up with OnaFlag and did sushi with him and his friend. Also played lots of Chinese (because one cannot eat at Naked Fish without playing Chinese poker as well)
- I am playing awfully at disc golf lately, averaging about 56.5/session. Either my putt game or approach game has been really shit
- I got the new Eminem album and am still up in the air about it
- Of the 22 chapters in my book, 14 are done and all but 3 are started
- I have a rediculous sunburn on my back from playing disc golf one day without a shirt. You can blatantly make out where on my back I could reach with sunblock, and where I could not, lol
- I ate at Mesa tonight with the aussies (Skelm and Johnny) and a lot of FR grinders (100NL-1!K grinders)
.

null

.
- I paid $20 for a wrist band knowing I was going to have to drive home. What a terrible investment, lol
- Got to talk some awesome strat with LaceyK which was interesting (as his game is self-built and very dynamically built)
- I busted out of event 49 the other day. Almost made dinner break, but failed. Made a “meh” squeeze and of course ran into 2 nut hands. Go me!
- I reached a zen point in event 49 where I just felt no pressure to do anything (no aggro bluffs, nothing unnecessary)
- I am looking forward to my event on Friday
- I bought a $5 app for my iphone that allows me to play Chinese poker at any time. I LOL’d at myself for buying such a thing
- I am writing an article for 2p2. Or at least I think it is for 2p2. It is about mental and emotional output and how to reconsider things better
- I am 4-1 on Scrabble games this week

Ok, that is all. I just wanted to get something written before I went to sleep. Hope all is well!

June 24 – CardRunners Dinner

Posted by SplitSuit On June - 24 - 2010

So I just got back from the CR dinner and wanted to get a post up before I passed out. Was a very good dinner (over at N9NE @ Palms) which had really good seafood (considering it is a steak house). I had been craving some salmon for a little while, so it hit me just right (and their lobster was damn good as well). Got to meet some cool people as well (though I will refrain from name dropping)…and it was cool to think about how much money the entire room was worth, lol. Overall, damn good experience…and always nice to put some faces to names.
.
I have been playing a ton of disc golf the last few days. Did 3 rounds today, 2 yesterday, etc. I am incredibly tan because of it, and loving the exercise (each round is about 1.25mi). I am doing a lot of tweaking with my shot and trying to add some extra distance. In messing with my technique so much my scores have been suffering…but couple that with playing with OBs now, it makes some sense. If I could just sure up my short game a pinch (I am randomly struggling with 25-15ft putts) I would be much better off. O well…I will get it. I am confident that my new Destroyer will also become my favorite disc ever. Now I just need to control the damn thing, lol

.
Past that everything has been going well. I have a few more coaching sessions this week, and then I am back to the WSOP grind next week. The book is also coming along slowly, but it is what it is. Eventually it will just be another task wiped off the list. And with that said, I am going to sleep. I am totally exhausted due to all the time outside, which is refreshing. Now if I could just improve my diet I would be well on my way to a healthy life style. O well, in time.

June 20 – Happy Father’s Day

Posted by SplitSuit On June - 20 - 2010

Happy father’s day to those of you reading the blog with kids. Hopefully it was a good one. I ended up getting a convo in with my dad early in the day…and was a bit lazy on when I ordered his gift…so hopefully he should get it this week (got him a decent 9MP digital camera…because I’m sick of getting crappy pix he took with his old ass cell phone, lol). I am extremely tired right now though, so this blog post will be brief.
.
I have done a ton of golfing (of different varieties) this weekend. Ended up getting my new golf discs the other day (a sick mix of discs I had never even heard of) and have been enjoying the hell out of them. I got a bubble gum Dragon disc and a Wraith which are just dope as discs with very cool flight patterns. My throw has gotten stronger (I am driving 325 more consistently), but I am still working on getting up to the 375 area. I will get there in time I’m sure. And I actually got to use them today in minimal wind…although my game was pretty sloppy due to tossing discs for like 4hrs on Saturday.
.
Today I actually played real golf (or “ball golf” lol) for the first time in like 2years. I bought a set of clubs the other day and wanted to try them out. Went out to Rancho with Jon and we just kicked it. Oddly enough I managed to not get life tilted…which I guess is easy when you have no expectation at all due to being entirely rusty. I managed to do alright and was putting some +1, +2, +3 scores later on. I sadly broke a club, but not from tilt. I was crushing my midgame with my 8i and the damn head snapped off on a 110y layup. fuck. O well, I will just go get a new one, and then also get a new driver…as I need an oversized driver for the fun stuff =)
.

.
Past that things are going really well. I have a week full of coaching and then I have events the week after. Goals for the week include finishing more chapters and also getting 2 350 drives. all very doable =) Also, I recently DL’d “Words With Friends” for the iPhone…so if anyone plays, just add me (SplitSuit). Hope all is well

June 17 – Out Of Event 30

Posted by SplitSuit On June - 17 - 2010

So I managed to last all of 6 minutes in my latest WSOP event, lol. I managed to play 3 hands, the first two of them being relatively odd. I will talk about them now. Now, mind you that MTT play is still not my biggest strength, but I am relatively happy with my lines in them.
.
Hand 1 of Event 3 (in SB with $4500 @ 25/50): Folds to BUT who opens $150 (the BB isn’t there, so I am the last contender). He is an older guy (probably 50′s), and I call with JJ. A strong argument could be made for 3betting here, but flatting is certainly the safer play imo. Flop comes 9x8c6c. I check, he bets $300, I call. The turn comes a 7x and I donk for $200. I do this for a few reasons, the big ones being that it acts as a blocker, I don’t think it ever gets raised unless he has a T, and it should get me to SD for no more bets if I time well. He ends up folding fairly quickly.
.
Hand 2 of Event 3 (on BUT with $5000 @ 25/50): Folds to the CO who opens $150 (same guy from last hand). I call OTB with AdQs. The BB calls as well. Flop comes 8d6d3d. BB checks, CO bets $400. At this point I would guess that MTT pros would flat here in a chip survival effort and it also makes the turn relatively easy to play IP. However, I went with my standard cash game thought of “his stack is shorter at about 80bb and I don’t mind stacking this off right now with all my equities, plus FE is always nice.”. I raise to $1025, BB folds, CO snap ships and I call. He has JJ and I of course never improve.
.
Hand 3 of Event 3 (in CO with $900 @ 25/50): Folds to me and I open to $100 with As8d (def a tilty open, I should have taken a walk at this point rather than playing another hand). BUT calls and we see a HU flop of 9s8d4s. I check, he bets $300, I ship and he calls with A9 (btw, sweet call preflop bud!). I pick up a spade on the turn and of course brick it on the river (seriously, if I ever hit a draw in one of these tournies I am going to puke with excitement right there on the table).
.
So I took most of yesterday off and got some writing done. Felt good, and I even wrote a creative writing piece as the right side of my brain has been screaming for attention recently. I have also been dreaming a lot recently, and very disturbing dreams (death, hiding from threats, etc)…which actually sparked me to write my will the other day. Very odd feeling writing your will at the grand age of 23…but better safe than sorry I suppose. And on that note…I’m off to write some more and relax. Hope all is well!

June 13 – Out Of Event 24

Posted by SplitSuit On June - 13 - 2010

How is it possible to not only run good, but to do so for hours upon hours on end? Aka, how is it possible to play MTTs? lol. When the first hand of an event you flop top set and lose, you know its going to be a fun event. Ended up lasting about 2hrs and then busted with 88 v KK in a postional aggro pot. Like usual, no real traction going. Just terrible lefts and missing everything postflop, or getting binked on. *Sigh*. At least I have a few more events left.
.
The last few days have been aggravating. I recorded my CR vid the other day and spent all of Friday producing it (which took about 7hrs). I am happy with the work, and just need to give it a twice-over to make sure that I am 100% happy with everything. I just really dislike having to be so damn meticulous with the editing because I am a super nit. That, and I have to take Adderall to do it, which always fucks up my sleep schedule. I think I need to take some melatonin and restart my body clock a little bit.
.

I have also been putting in more sessions lately around coaching. I am getting bored with shortstacking on PokerStars and have been mixing some fullstacking on a less known site (I am keeping it quiet for the moment due to how good the games are =) ). My game feels really sharp right now…I just wish some of that would translate over to MTTs, lol. But I am doing my best to stay optimistic.
.
Past that, I lost my driver the other day, which is life tilting me. I had used that disc on each coast, and loved the feel of it. I decided to just spend $100 and pick up a lot of discs. So I have some new drivers (a little heavier than my 167g Championship Sidewinder) in the mail, and hopefully should have them this week. Fingers crossed I can get some nice weather with lack of wind (the wind has been horrid for the last few months gusting up to 30mph during the day)…and then I’ll go play for like 5hrs to test all my new discs. It’s like Christmas =)
.
And on that note…I’m going to go relax. I’ve watched two movies in the last 2 days (The Visioneers and Rampage)…not sure if I liked either of them tbh…so hopefully my movie selection improves =)

June 9 – I Need A Nap…

Posted by SplitSuit On June - 9 - 2010

The last few days have been long for some odd reason. It probably doesn’t help that I’ve been waking up early each day and working for most of the day…so what can you do? I have been doing a lot of coaching the last few days, and have a busy day tomorrow as well. I also plan on doing a video tomorrow as well (and hopefully finishing the editing on Friday). There is a CR contest for best vid, and apparently the coaches can also enter it. Winner gets $5K…and this might just be the perfect time to introduce that video I was attempting to make a few months ago (where the technology crapped on me). I think the technology is better now than it was then…so fingers crossed it’s not another 20hrs wasted…
.

.
Also went down to the strip today to re-register for a few events (taking day 1bs rather than the 1as i had registered for). While I was down there I actually ran into the kid from my Venetian session a few weeks back who had the A6 v my JJ on a J6566 board. Talked with him for awhile and then headed out to get some disc golf in (as I hadn’t gone out in a few days due to scheduling and gym time). Only did 1/2 the course, and played rather badly, but felt good to get out there in 100*+ heat and get moving a bit.
.
Went down to the strip on Monday as well and had dinner with PokerRon and TheCraftyCockney (and their friend who’s name is totally escaping me atm). Very cool guys, and oddly enough TCC was on my table for a little while during one of my WSOP events. Nice to chat some poker, and then I decided to go play some live. Played a little NL, got bored, and decided to play some O8 because, well, boredom will make you make bad life decisions. Watched this one woman hit 3 sets (and hold, mind you) in the same orbit. Another person hit 3 perfect/perfect boats in a 1/2hr. All while I bricked everything, got counterfeited on every turn, and won all of 2 pots. I don’t know why I play that game as a person who couldn’t hit a draw with a pen and paper…but what can ya do?
.
Past that, life is chilling. I have my next event on Sunday, and then we’ll see what happens from there. Everything else is good, and I’m off to play some halo and crash so I can be productive tomorrow. Hope all is well!

June 6 – Out Of Event 13

Posted by SplitSuit On June - 6 - 2010

I need to come up with some more positive sounding titles for these posts, lol. I actually busted yesterday as I played day1a (something I will not be doing for the rest of my $1K events), and just got around to writing a post today. I didn’t mean to sign up for the Saturday starting day. I would always prefer to take the Sunday starting day on these 2day starting $1K events because the internet kids will play the Saturday-day so they can play the majors on Sunday. Bad play on my behalf, but what can you do?
.
I busted just after 2nd break (same as I did in event 8). I just couldn’t get traction the entire time, as the highest my stack got the entire time was less than 2x starting stack. I ended up busting in a similar way to that of event 2 actually. I made a call against an aggro player in a very polarized spot where he is so bottom-side weighted…and of course was wrong or ran bad…either way. I am also 2/10 in aipf’s (my buster hand this time was my A7 v A6…6 on flop ldo). Hoping all the rungood is just building up for one sick ass romp =)
.

coinfrips

.
Speaking of rungood…Kurt did damn well. He final tabled event 8, which I had just so happened to swap 2% with him. So I went down to the RIO on Friday after my student and sweated the FT with the uFR house. Was a thrill ride, even just from the sweat POV. The winner was a massive luckbox, and ended up winning 5 20/80′s in a row. But there was a sick hand where 3 ppl got aipf with JJ v AK v AK (the 2nd AK should have snap folded PF) and JJ held busting 2 ppl in one scoop which was like a $30K jump for Kurt. Very fun stuff, but you could see how much 3 days of intense decision making takes a toll on someone, lol.
.
Past that, things are going well. I have been going back to the gym, 2x/week right now, which is a good start. Nice to be getting a little bit of definition back. The book is also coming along nicely, and this week is filled up with students that have been patient with my very inflexible schedule this month (thanks guys!). I will also be putting up my COTW in a couple hours, and will probably post that on here as well. Hopefully yall enjoy it!. Hope all is well.

June 2 – Out of Event 8

Posted by SplitSuit On June - 2 - 2010

The last few days flew by. I have been doing a ton of writing lately (almost entirely done with the PF section of my book), and revamping pieces of my MTT game (cash game mentality is a real killer in certain MTT spots). Today I took off from that and went to play Event 8 (a $1.5K event). I met up with El Nino, KurtSF, pfapfap, and Dabomb and did breakfast at 9 (tourny starts at noon). Was nice to do it as it got my poker brain started early (talks of polarization and 3b/flat ranges before noon is always a fun way to start a day, lol). Def going to be chilling out with the uFR house a lil bit while they’re out here.
.

.
The event was pretty boring. I never got any traction which was annoying. I had a great table composition though, with 2 super nits on my left (that literally let me steal with a 2.25x raise 18/19 times), one guy on my right who didn’t seem to interested in fighting for these awesome steal spots, and some fish across the table. I just never got a hand to mix in vs. the fish, and the steal spots were janky because the fish kept fucking open limping. I stayed around starting stack most of the day until the blinds really jumped and then all I could do was make a squeezeship with AJs that of course ran into QQ and AK (although QQ open-folded pf, lol, and of course the board came KT5 just to laugh in my face). O well…5 more shots left =)
.
Random things:
.
1.) I had Freddy Deeb at my table today…for all of the 15 minutes his stack lasted. I also overheard him and Humberto Brenes talking about Chicklets. For some odd reason this made me LOL, literally.
2.) There were 3 people at my table wearing sunglasses in a situation where one was in MP, one OTB, and one in the SB when i was in the BB. I announced that if anyone wearing sunglasses were to raise that I would shove on them. 2 of them removed their sunglasses before looking at their cards.
3.) There is no better feeling than betting 1/4 pot and winning
4.) I have been aipf 7 times (mostly versus stacks smaller than mine, ldo) and have won only one of them (AA v KK).
5.) A man at my table won 8/8 of the times he got it aipf with various equities (some behind, some ahead, some coinflip). He refused to believe that he was running good
6.) Online players are funny when they play live. They all tend to think the same way and at the same speed, which makes playing against them a hilarious adventure.
.
That is all from me tonight. I’m off to crash. Also, I did a 53 the other day which sets my new course record. Maybe I’ll break that between now and my next WSOP event on Saturday.
