July 30 – Laughs

Posted by SplitSuit On July - 30 - 2010

The last few days have been solid. Got some coaching done, picked up a few new students, and got a little framing done for my big chapters (VBing and barreling). I have also been hitting the gym more (will be getting an LVAC membership because Jon is going more and going to the gym with a friend is the best way to continue going). I am incredibly sore today in the calves, but I suppose running at an 8min/mi when I haven’t ran in months will do that. Will certainly be nice when I trim down a bit and get a lil more build, as I haven’t had that in years.
.
We’ve also been going out more at night. Hit up a comedy club on Monday which was a total failure. Apparently kuge didn’t realize that places in Vegas can go out of business in like 22 minutes, so the place he had planned was a bust. We just went out to a bar near his place and talked poker and life for a few hours. Then we went out to an open-mic tonight (kuge is obviously doing so scoping out of possible places to perform). No lie…I was super impressed. For an open-mic, it was a great show. Very talented people, and even the MC was hilarious. The only sad thing was that like 14 people showed up, lol. But it was cool as we talked with a few of them after and just relaxed.

Everything else has been going well. Have been getting out to play disc golf most everyday and enjoying the blazing hot 105* rounds. I have been playing like shit, but I am also tweaking with my shot and trying to snap better, which I have been doing poorly forever. It should help me finally break 400ft on the drives, but so far it is just acting as a pain in the ass. O well. Alright, Im going to go pass out. I am incredibly tired and need to be up early so I can get a few hours of writing done before my student. Hope all is well

July 25 – COTW Video Is Finally Done!

Posted by SplitSuit On July - 25 - 2010

I started the script last week, finished it up on Friday, recorded it on Saturday and finished the editing/production on it today. It is…a cool video imo. If I had something like this when I first started getting into planning and line creation I would have saved myself a few months at least. Hopefully it gets received well. It is a 35minute video (with chapters so you can auto skip to sections you want to see), and gets relatively in depth imo.
.

.
With that done I am looking to get a ton of book writing this week. The week is pretty light with only 10hrs of coaching scheduled, so I should be able to get a good push. I just have the technical chapters to finish really (4betting, CRing, barreling, etc)…and I am throwing a hudge party when it’s done. I am also looking to get to the gym a few times and get at least 10miles done this week as well. I hit a scale the other day and realized that I am at 182, which is by far the heaviest I have ever been. I am still far from fat (as I am 5’11″-6foot), but I am not thrilled with that number. So I am going to try and fix that up as best as possible.
.
Random notes:
- I locked comments on older articles. My spam blocker was missing a lot of spam comments and I was getting life tilted that I kept needing to handle it myself
- I have a vacation planned in one month. I am so looking forward to that
- I have started watching the show “Gravity.” I still don’t know how I feel about it
- Futurama is the greatest show ever. And Bender is the greatest character ever
- I have been listening to this song nonstop. My ADD is very calmed when I listen to the same song for hours on end. I do not expect everyone to like it, lol
.

.
And with that…I’m off to play some halo and then crash out. Hope all is well!

July 21 – I Am An RPM Pro!

Posted by SplitSuit On July - 21 - 2010

I had been in talks with RPM for awhile, and we finally got everything finalized today. For those of you who don’t know what RPM is, it is a poker site on the Merge network. Very soft site, and a site I am proud to have my name attached to. My bio/profile got put up today (along with my silliest pic ever taken), and you can see that here. As a pro I am able to help those looking for a solid RB deal…so just let me know if you are interested =)

Today was a rough day past that. Had some family stuff to deal with, and couldn’t focus for anything. I tried to get some writing done, and failed miserably at that. I got maybe 5 pages written before I just quit for the day and bummed around. I am off to get sushi in a little while, which will be perfect and necessary. Nothing like some Miso and midnight sushi to make me happy =). And on a related note, I learned that drinking soup with a spoon in Japanese culture apparently “scoops out the luck”…suffice it to say that I will never be using a spoon for my Miso ever again, lol.
.
Past that, life is good. I have some students tomorrow and want to get some serious writing done this weekend. I can feel it getting close. I am done with the biggest chapters in the book (3betting, CBing, 3b pots, and big hands)…the rest are just grind chapters like 4betting and CRing. Like I have said before…I will be so happy when I am all done with it.

July 20 – I Am Accomplishing Things!

Posted by SplitSuit On July - 20 - 2010

Feels so good to be cranking through my list of shit to do. I decided that I need to start writing my “to do” list again in order to keep myself focused. My list this week is a little nuts, but I have some extra time, so it should be no issue. With that I got about 6hrs of writing done today, a shortstacking session in, and even went out and saw “Inception”. Good flick, and def suggest it for those that like thinking movies. Was almost 3hrs long though, which took me by surprise as it certainly didn’t feel that long at all.
.
The book is coming along nicely. I am almost done with the flop section, and then I am on the homecoming stretch. I finished “Playing Big Hands On The Flop” which was…long to say the least. It came out to about 15 pages single spaced (before images and hand histories). My real goal with the book is to break away from the standard “here is play X and how to run it” and go towards more of a “here are the parameters that make play X a solid choice.” In doing that I try to look at most angles and explore the multitude of the decision matrix. This is great as it preps the work for my upcoming COTW on “planning”.

.
Random note but the other day I decided to watch a documentary on dreams. Was very interesting to say the least. The idea was that dreams are effectively our brain trying to make sense of past and current stimuli, and test them in a safe environment. So our brain acts as a simulation room where it can test out different actions and situations and help us in real life when similar situations arise. Such a cool concept and makes total sense, especially given my current dreaming. My dreaming over the last few months has actually been my brain working out different problems, business and poker, and testing different things out. I thought my brain just wasn’t shutting off, but it is nice to find out that my brain is doing what it is supposed to be doing =)

.
Past that, everything has been going well. Just cranking away and crossing things off the to-do list. I need to get my mom a present this week (no real idea what to get her) and also renew my car registration (and dealing with DMV bureaucracy is ALWAYS a fun time!). And on that note, I’m off to sleep and wake up to crank through some more writing and grinding. Hope all is well.

July 15 – Grindalong

Posted by SplitSuit On July - 15 - 2010

The week is grinding along, as am I. I got some more writing done this week (about 6 pages), and have already done 10hrs of coaching this week. I have another 5 or so left, and my goal is to get some more writing done. I think my goal of getting the book totally written by the end of the month is a bit lofty, but if I can get some good grinding done, I think I can do it. Just need some adderall and blocks of time to put it all together.
.
Past that life has been pretty boring. My disc golf game has been suffering due to the heat (averaging like 107*F each time we go), and the dehydration takes a lot out of me. I am still averaging about +2 pace across the course (56), but I have lost my consistency. Hopefully I can start putting some good rounds together, especially given that I am controlling my Katana and Destroyer much better. In time I suppose…
.
I have also been being a nerd and playing a ton of scrabble (well, WWF on the iphone). I think I am about 6-1 this week (and the loss was by about 7 points). The game is making me realize how fucked I am when it comes to competitive games in the future. I cannot for the life of me just play a game for fun. I am always trying to find edges and exploitative lines. So I have been playing the boards very tight in scrabble (making me become more efficient with my 2-4 letter words) and opening the board only if favorable spots arise. /nerdom
.

.
And on that note, I need to get some sleep. I haven’t been getting many hours of sleep lately and it’s been bugging me. So hopefully it doesn’t take me 2hrs to fall asleep again. Hope all is well!

July 12 – Back To The Grind

Posted by SplitSuit On July - 12 - 2010

So my birthday came and went. Was a good day. Ended up going out to Blondies that night and caught up with one of my college friends (Btine) who I hadn’t seen in about 3 years. Was nice to get some beerpong in as I hadn’t played since Albany. Spent Saturday feeling like hell and coaching, and passed out early. Went to bed around 9p and woke up at 2p the next day. I may have ended up catching a bug of sorts because I still feel a little out of it.
.

I am also back to the grind this week. The last month has been relatively relaxed as far as work hours, due to events and lots of writing. However, that little “vacation” has passed and back to the grind we go. I did a wall today, and have students every day this week (with another wall on Thursday). My personal goal is to also finish the book by the end of the month. I will attach the TOC here (although it is tentative and I might add another chapter or so if I feel it fits in well).
.

1.) Preflop warm up
2.) Preflop Hand Selection
3.) Calling raises
4.) Isolating
5.) 3B-ing
6.) Squeezing
7.) 4B-ing
8.) PF adjustments
-
9.) Postflop Warm Up
10.) Understanding SDV
11.) CB-ing
12.) FLOATING SECTION
13.) CR-ing
14.) Facing a CR
15.) Playing 3B pots on the flop
16.) Playing big hands on the flop
17.) Flop adjustments
-
18.) Barreling
19.) VB-ing
20.) Postflop adjustments
-
21.) Creative Line Composition

.
I would say I am about 75% through the writing of it, and would guess it will be about 85 pages single spaced before images/hands. It is a beastly lil project to say the least. But like I said in an earlier post, I will be extremely proud when it is all said and done. Random side note…I got a new Katana and got some extra control on my Sidewinder…so my disc golf game is getting a bit more consistent. I just need to reclaim my damn DX Starfire =)
.
And with that all being said, I am going to go get some sleep. Hope all is well!

July 9 – It’s My Birthday!

Posted by SplitSuit On July - 9 - 2010

I randomly woke up at 7a this morning so I figured that I would write a blog post before I got started on the day. It is my birthday, and I turned 24 today. I don’t feel older, and tbh, I usually forgot that I was 23 anyway, lol. I also usually hate my birthday…but aim to make this a good one. Started the day with sushi (well, at like 1a) and have disc golf, book writing, and flippong later in the day. No complaints from me =)
.

cake

.
The book is coming along nicely. I just finished the “Playing 3bet Pots Postflop” chapter. It came out to 12 pages single spaced (before images/hand histories). It is a beast of a fucking chapter. My goal is to finish “Playing Big Hands On The Flop” today, and maybe crank out the rest of “Flop Adjustments” as well. We shall see (though addy is certainly helping me get the more technical writing done). I will be so excited when it is all finished and I finally have a big project done.
.
I also went to the CR party the other day (the last one of the summer). Was nice to meet some more people and put more faces to names that I respect. I drank a little more than I had intended to while there, so went to play poker while sobering up. Ended up getting lost and found myself in the TI poker room which was…small…to say the least. I started a 4/8 dealer’s choice game which was fun, but they were retarded and wanted to play Badugi games and couldnt understand 5cO8 (2-5 style). So I went over to play 300NL because it was the only NL game they had running. Ran super card dead for ever and then finally got a few things going:
.

I ISO to $14 w/ (1/3NL) JdTs from the CO, both the blinds come along and the original limper. Flop comes AdQd3d. BB donks for like $40 into $60 leaving himself about $80 back. I just ship it and actually ended up binking a fucking monster draw.
.
Folds around to the button with $110 who steals for $10. I eek out AQ from the BB and 3bet to $28, he shoves and I call. He of course has AA and acts like his trap was the most ingenious thing ever (I didnt win this, ldo)
.
I raise from EP with AA to $11 and get snap 3bet to $45 ($300 effective to start the hand) by a guy who obviously doesn’t enjoy my running 62/24. The same guy from AAvAQ and turbo ships his stack for $200. I honestly had no idea if shoving or flatting would get a lighter action from the 3better…so I flatted and he folded QQ face up. Shover had KK and I held. No skill there.
.
Not more than 2 orbits later I raise AA from EP to $11, get snap 3bet to $25 by a guy with $95 to start the hand. Folds to me and I ship, he also had KK. WTF is this noise? Infinite run good juice engaged.

.
And sadly after all that is said and done, I didn’t even end up making a full BI, lol. I had lost an AI earlier in the night with top 2 v a binked better 2 pr…but what are you going to do? And on that note…im off to eat breakfast and get going with the day. Hope all is well!

Flopzilla (w/ Video)

*click* How To Use Flopzilla Video *click*
.
So I was talking with the creator of Flopzilla the other day and wanted to find some way to get him some more customers (as I am a big believer in supporting people who make quality stuff). He said he would give a discount to anyone who buys it and mentions my name while doing so, so you pay $15 as opposed to the sticker price $25 (it should also be noted that I don’t get a single dollar for this. This is strictly a discount that the buyer gets, I get nothing in kickback). Because I wasn’t sure if many people have used the software before, I figured I would make a small video going over how to use Flopzilla so you have a jump start if you decide to buy and use it.
.

flopzilla

.
It is a very simple program that allows you to visualize how often different ranges hit different boards, and also see how certain hands/ranges will hit the flop. I use this software a ton in my post-session analysis and thought it would be helpful for most anyone playing a HE based game. So watch the video (which imo is useful even if you decide to not use the software) and if you have any questions, just fire away.

July 5 – The Day After The 4th…

Posted by SplitSuit On July - 5 - 2010

This will probably also be a short post. I am relatively inebriated right now and need to sleep (to wake up for work in the morning). I decided to be smart and have my friend DD for the night (thank you Jon!) and went down to the 2p2 party with him and Kuge. Ended up getting pretty hammered off a free open bar and food, and played Chinese Low and some 5card PLO8. Was a very good time, and just like last year, I thoroughly enjoyed the 2p2 party. Only met up with the 2p2 FR house for a few minutes, and couldnt convince any of them to join our 5card PLO8 game.
.

aria

.
After that we bounced up to the 23rd floor (some bar/lounge) of Aria to watch the fireworks. Sadly the view was pretty hindered by the Aria hotel, so I missed most of it. Was still nice to play some Chinese with Jon and Kuge and just kick it. Had a nice cheers to good fortune each of has had, regardless of certain things. Speaking of such, I busted in my last WSOP event. Got it aipf with AQ v KJ and caught a nice 7337 board until the J on the river. Was pretty life tilted yesterday having gone 0/7 not only on ITM, but on even making dinner break. I was called “oh-ferr” the entire night…but it’s a nickname I fully deserve, lol.
.
Once fireworks were finished we jumped over to some poolhall and played pool for a couple hours. Katie also joined us, and I hope I didn’t make too big of an ass out of myself. I hadn’t played cuthroat in quite some time, and on top of that the tip of cue stick broke. Still did alright as I won 3/4 games (and all of the 8 ball games we played before she got there). I would need so much work if I were going to hustle like I used to…but it was still fun just to play a little bit. And on that note…im off to sleep. I need to crash out and decided if I want to wake up early and get my car into the shop (as my car window busted) or sleep in and take of it later. I shall see. Take it easy yall
