.
This is a 30 minute video played at 100NL on FTP. I recently reset my DB, so I have no info on anyone and spend the session trying to gather info and create strategies. I talked a lot about my strategies when I have very little information, and showed how I adjust in that kind of environment. The tables were a little loose and splashy…but overall it was a fun session (with some fish that were very angry with each other spazing out in chat =) ). If you want to DL this video to watch on your own time, here is a DL link:

Jan 26 – Stress Levels Are Peaking

Posted by SplitSuit On January - 26 - 2011

I know I am often times stressed, but lately the stress has seemed to be a lot higher. I don’t think I have much reason to feel so stressed out…but I guess working more hours/week and feeling like I have a bunch of looming projects over my head isn’t helping. I wrote the script for a new video (on playing AK), but haven’t had time to record or edit it yet. I took adderall last Friday to get it written…but ended up spending 3hrs working on graphics stuff (redesigning my splitsuit logo for tables and such) and didn’t have to time to record (which will probably take about 2-3hrs given the estimated length of the video). O well.
.

.
I have been hitting the gym a lot lately (in an effort to manage my health a lil better). My chest has been feeling really tight during the days (a small degree of what I imagine a heart attack would feel like, lol)…so I’m trying to make sure I hit the gym and eat a lil better as well. Doing at least a couple miles per day is helping me feel a little better. I’ve also been playing a fair amount of Reach at night just to dumb out and relax. I think I am going to take a full week off in Feb and just play video games all night and disc golf all day. That sounds like a damn good idea =)
.
Most everything else is going well. I’ve just been coaching 3-5hrs/day everyday…and spending other hours handling coaching emails, my forum, etc. I haven’t had a lot of time for other things…and as much as I want to wake up early to get some disc golf in…I am going to bed at like 2a every morning making a 9a wake up difficult. I can’t wait for the weather to get a bit nicer out. It’s been kind of chilly here the last few weeks. Actually, on that note…I am going to list off a bunch of random things that have happened over the last few days:
.

- I recorded two sessions over the weekend, and might try to record a free 2p2 video this weekend
- I finally got the Omega One album…It is fantastic (imagine DJ Shadow meets Jedi Mind Tricks instrumentation)
- Customer service pro tip: Don’t tell the customer they fucked up. ever
- I finally got the correct fitting VW emblem for my grill
- I have been scrabble crushing lately (making many people resign within 5 moves, lol)
- I have been watching a ton of old seasons of “American Dad”…very underrated show imo
- I created a coaching session called “PEAR”…I have very high hopes for it
- Hair cuts lower my stress level. I know this is odd…but w/e
- I bought the new Analytical NLHE book. It felt super odd buying a poker book after writing your own, lol
- Jballer has a sick podcast on CR about handling 3bets…great podcast for those who enjoy that kind of thing

.
And on that note…I need to get some sleep. Hope all is well with yall!

Jan 20 – Sushi And 2010 Report

Posted by SplitSuit On January - 20 - 2011

The last few days have been pretty nuts. Doing at least 3hrs/day of coaching and getting my tax information in order. In doing my tax stuff (and thank God I was super organized last year) I have been running different reports to see where my money is going. I found that about 23% of my expenses for 2010 were for food/entertainment, with most of that being sushi =) Hopefully I can finish all of this tax stuff soon and be done with it…
.

.
This year is going well so far. Incredibly busy with a large influx of new students, and the protege program is keeping the other half of my time busy. I am enjoying the hell out of everything so far, but it will be nice when I no longer need to work 25hr weeks, lol. Yes, I know to the normal person this probably sounds very relaxed, but 25hrs of high-intensity thinking/discussing isn’t as easy as 40hrs in a cube watching Hulu and kicking back. However, I wouldn’t trade my job for a damn thing =)
.
Everything else is going well. Got out last night and grabbed some sushi with the guys, and am going to hit the gym tonight for sure. Also played some disc golf the other day (for the first time in maybe 2 months). Felt good to get my arm in motion again, and I actually think my disc has gotten longer. Of course, my form and control were a bit sloppy, but I am very much looking forward to getting back into playing a round+/day when the weather gets nice again. Plus, it’ll be nice to get outside a bit more. I don’t think I saw the sun at all yesterday, which is more than a little depressing.
.

.
I also randomly decided to throw in the ol Halo 3 disc for a lil bit last night (to see how I liked it in comparison to reach). I will say that i really do think that Halo 3 is the most balanced 1st person shooter ever. However, reach is by far and away more visually appealing. Reach is still growing on me…and I surely don’t regret getting it…but def think that Halo 3 needs to be revived in some way. And on that note, I am going to go play a few games before by next student. I actually have a “day off” tomorrow, so I’ll probably get some playing and script writing done then. Hope all is well!

Jan 16 – A Very Long Weekend

Posted by SplitSuit On January - 16 - 2011

For some odd reason this weekend seemed really long, and yet I worked like 6hrs/day. I had an awesome TANK yesterday focused on bluffing, which reminds me that I need to revamp my normal tanks. I feel like I am doing very well in the group coaching environment, even with such large groups. I did about 10hrs of coaching this weekend, which has really worn me out. And I have 3 more walls this week as well…the work never ends sometimes, lol
.
I got a good workout in on Friday at least. Then Jon and I headed over to “Sen Of Japan” which was a really awesome sushi place. They had some really interesting flavor combos (shrimp tempura with mandarian orange!?) and I was pretty impressed. Felt good to get some sushi, as I hadn’t eatten any since before my vacation. Though I get to grab sushi in a couple weeks with one of my proteges who will be out in Vegas…I love meeting up with students and being able to put faces to names (esp when it involves sushi =) ).
.

.
I am also a massive donk. I got the new grill emblem for my car and it is ALSO the wrong fucking size. *sigh* Now I am sitting here with 2 fucking emblems that don’t fit my grille, and a grille that is still empty, lol. I resolve to fix this so I can actually be happy to drive my car again. Past that, I am still loving my new dash. Not sure how I want to listen to music in it yet (ipod, USB, or just all discs). I hate the audio quality degradation from the iphone…so I need to figure something out…
.
Everything else is going well. Just getting a lot of work done and having fun coaching. I might make another premium vid this week (and one focused on postflop!)…I need to do something creative…and that is usually a perfect way to make the right side of my brain happy. I have also been playing some 6max on PS (getting used to regular tables)…and I’m not quite sure how I like it yet. O well, I will keep messing with it and see what I want to do with it. And on that note…I am going to go get a lift in. Hope all is well!

Jan 13 – What An Odd Week Already

Posted by SplitSuit On January - 13 - 2011

This week has been pretty all over the place, and mostly in the good way. I’ve been coaching 3 students/day every day this week, except for Wednesday when I supposedly took the day off (I say supposedly because I ended up taking a last minute student late that night). Overall this week has been a lot of work, but work does a body good (that’s the saying, right?). Speaking of which, I managed to stress out my elbow, so my arm has been in a ton of pain for the last few days. Hopefully some ice will fix this, but overall, it sucks.
.

.
Wednesday I ended up getting my car mods done. The DVD player in the dash is awesome, and has become my new toy. I still haven’t watched anything on it, but it’s nice to know that I can, lol. I also got my new grille put in, but of course I ran like shit doing so. I got the wrong sized front emblem, so now I am forced to wait about a week for one a new one to get hear. So my grille now looks like Iron Man’s chest when he takes the thing out of it. *sigh* Only I could run bad in fucking car mod shit, lol
.
While waiting for my car (which always takes a few hours) I decided to walk over to the Venetian and play a small session. I underestimated the walk, which turned out to be closer to a 3mi walk, lol. O well. I felt kind of like a bum having to walk on the side of the highway, but it is what it is. Had a decent table, but couldn’t really get anything going. Only really had 2 hands of note. Sitting about $250 deep (at 1/2) there is a raise to $6 by a super tight guy from EP, 2 calls in MP (from weak players) and I called OTB with A3ss. The flop comes AxJs6s. EP bets $12, MP raises to $30, and it folds to me. I didn’t want to flat here ($180 effective v MP, and $250 effective versus EP). I raised to $94 as a semi-bluff, as I knew that MP would raise/fold better Ax hands here. They both folded, making for a nice pick up…but I hate having to expose that much of my stack like that.
.

.
I had another hand with a raise from EP and 2 calls in MP where i squeezed AQo. It folds to the last MP guy who calls. Flop comes 752 and he c/cs a 1/2PSB. Turn is a 9 and he leads for $50 into $80. I folded and he showed Q8. He quickly explained that he had someone do that to him the other day, and thus he wanted to try it. LOL, i love live-player logic =) The rest of the session I was carddead, and had a guy on my left who played every day and was talking WR/strat with me the whole time, so I decided not to open up too much just in case. Was an experience discussing poker strat/hourly stuff openly at a table…but I was just kicking it and it made it more fun for me actually, lol
.
And on that note, I have one more coaching session tonight. I had one earlier with my proteges and they will now gladly tell you that I do not know the difference between an 8 and a 1…that is all =) I’m going to hit the gym after that and get a few miles ran. Hope all is well!

Jan 9 – Full Grind Time

Posted by SplitSuit On January - 9 - 2011

So I got back into Vegas on Thursday night and have been grinding ever since. I took most all of Friday to get errands done, as I needed to do a lot of stuff around town. Also got the new dash for my car (DVD player in the dash ftw?) and scheduled install for that and my grill next week. Got some minor body work done on my car as well (scraped the rear, changed out the emblem for a carbon fiber one, and cleaned it up), so I am just about done spending money on the car, lol. After the grill/dash…I might add a few more speakers, sound-enhance the car, and then possibly new rims/tires later down the line. But then…then I am done =)
.

.
I spent most of this weekend coaching. Did about 8hrs between Saturday and Sunday, but feel really good about it. The protege program is really kicking off and it seems like everyone is really getting along and enjoying the experience. I’m looking forward to seeing the progress they make in the next couple months, and am very excited about it all. I just keep adding more and more videos to my collection though, and will probably have about 100GB of vids by the time the year is over, lol
.
Everything else is gong pretty well. I finally cracked open Halo: Reach yesterday and have been playing a lot of it. I’m not sure what to make of the game yet. I mean, it is a beautiful game. Graphically some of the levels are just stunning (especially “Reflection”). The weapons are a bit different (although I really enjoy the new needler, lol), but I am getting used to that. I fear the replayability won’t match that of Halo 3, which is by far the most epic and replayable first person shooter imo. However, time will tell. The abilities are very cool (esp the hologram one)…and add a different dimension to the game. Still getting used to it as it forces me to focus on yet another thing (besides learning maps, weapon locations, etc.)…but overall I am very happy.
.

.
I think I am going to try and write something for 2p2 this week. I am thinking about writing something on execution in poker…but we’ll see what I feel like writing when I sit down to do it. Not sure if this one will reach the lengths of some of my previous COTWs…but we shall see =) and with that said, I am going to play some Reach and then crash out. O, random side note…went to the comedy club on Friday and saw the drunkest dude ever absolutely crush a comic’s set. It was 25minutes of the comic just ridiculing this drunk dude who was being a total ass. moral of the story: don’t be an asshole to someone on stage. ever. Hope all is well!

Jan 5 – Lots Of Coaching

Posted by SplitSuit On January - 5 - 2011

O my this year is off to a big coaching start, lol. I’ve been doing at least 3hrs/day (between normal coaching, protege program, and leakfinders)…which hasn’t been leaving a lot of time for other things. Pretty much eat, coach all day, play a session, and then try to relax before I sleep. I’ve been wanting to get some more writing done, but I will attend to that when I get back in Vegas and can use my normal writing set up. O well.
.

.
I leave for Vegas tomorrow, which will be nice. I’ve had my fill of winter, snow, and shitty gray weather. It’ll be nice to get back to sun, my car, and my normal day to day. I also miss having multiple laptops (so I can do things like compress videos, upload videos, etc. without slowing down the computer I’m using). I’ve been recording a ton of the protege sessions…and I’m not sure what I will do with them…but it’ll be nice to have like 50hrs of coaching stored up for future review and such.
.
Everything else is going well. I think a lot of the gifts I bought myself will be waiting for me when I get home. I got a new grill for my car, some other car stuff, and need to go buy my new deck as well. I don’t have a ton of time until next week, but I’ll get everything taken care of then. I had a lil issue with my car yesterday (they sent my payment packet like 3 days after i left for Boston…and apparently I was a lil late on my first payment due to this, lol). They were nice enough to rectify everything for me and very understanding. A big cheers to customer support who kick ass.
.
And on that note, I am going to leave you with a song. I have been grinding to this song and loving it. Enjoy if you like relaxing music.

Jan 2 – Happy New Year!

Posted by SplitSuit On January - 2 - 2011

I should have posted this yesterday, my bad. Happy New Year! Hopefully it has started off well for you. I have been busy as hell with the protege program starting up and doing a combo of solo sessions with them, group sessions with them, and also normal coaching. Also put in my first session of the year…and got welcomed into 2011 with KK < KK aipf, and trips/sets < hidden random junk. I suppose I should have expected nothing less, lol. FMY
.

.
I’m very excited about the protege program. There are 12 students, all doing unique things and with various backgrounds, that will keep me on my toes all year. We’ve done 2 tank sessions thus far, and I think ppl are starting to get on the same page. It’s very difficult doing such a large group, especially with some language barriers…but hopefully it’ll all work out. Fingers crossed =)
.
Everything else has been fine. Got back up to NH on NYE. I was feeling pretty sick, and scheduled an early tank on the 1st, so i actually crashed out early on NYE. Pretty lame way of bringing in the year, but O well. I always feel stupid living in Vegas, but being in NH or Boston for NYE. I think next year I will fly back right after Xmas and do NYE in Vegas for the first time. I do things very backwards sometimes, lol
.
Also, I sent a big email out to my list, but wanted to make a public notice as well. Until Jan 9 I will be discounting all of my videos. If you buy 2 videos I will take off 20%. If you buy 3 videos I will take off 30%. If you buy 4 or more videos I will take off 40%! I totally forgot to run an Xmas special, so i figured a new years special was just as good =) If you are interested, check out my poker products page (with new and pretty graphics =) ) and let me know if you want anything.
.
Hope all is well, and cheers to a big 2011!
