Mar 27 – Weekend In Boston

Posted by SplitSuit On March - 27 - 2011

So I drove down to Boston on Friday and have been down here ever since. I drove my sister’s car, which is by far the worst ride I have ever driven in, lol. And this is saying a lot considering that I bought a car in college that I was only able to drive once and it broke down on that drive. I also have to do more driving in that car for the next few days…hopefully I don’t die!
.

.
The weekend was pretty solid, even though I spent most of it working (a lot of coaching plus content creation for my new site). Other than that I did a lot of eating (my mom always does a lot of baking when I come home), and also trying some new restaurants. I ended up doing “Five Guys” today, which was extremely solid. I would actually say I liked it better than In-n-out…which saddens me because there are no 5guys out in vegas, lol. Also ate at Tsang’s last night…which was pretty meh as far as the sushi was concerned imo.
.
I also got to see a hard copy of my book (as my paperbacks arrived in Vegas like 2 days after i left on vacation, lol). I will say this…there is nothing cooler than seeing an in-hand copy of a book with your own name on it. It felt really odd, but exciting at the same time. It is really making me want to crank out the next book ASAP, which I think I am going to spend a lot of time working on in April. I am actually taking a ton of days “off” (in the sense that I won’t be coaching) in April, so hopefully I can get a lot of writing and video stuff done. It should be a good month =)
.
With that all said, I am going to go pass out. I need to get up pretty early tomorrow to do some driving before coaching starts (why I scheduled coaching the day before I leave is beyond me, lol). Hopefully all is going well with yall!

Mar 24 – Been Busy On Another Project

Posted by SplitSuit On March - 24 - 2011

The last few days have been pretty solid, albeit long. I have been coaching 3rs/day everyday, and also getting another project up on the side. This will be my first non-poker project in quite some time (actually revitalizing a project I had put on hold in the past). I actually highly doubt that the new project will generate anywhere near enough money to justify doing it…but I am getting a lot of utility out of it (and learning a lot about some other things at the same time). I am actually really happy, as in just 2 days I have already generated search engine traffic and the numbers are growing daily…
.

.
I will obviously share the project in time (once it is bigger and more presentable)…but for now I am just adding content and enjoying being anon for a lil while. Besides that, I have also been playing some poker. Everything is going fine there, still running kinda meh…but working through it and getting used to it again. It is kind of weird playing 6max with what I would consider a “modified FR strategy”…but I like it. I am playing pretty nitty by 6max standards…but they seem so damn spewwy that it doesn’t really seem to affect how I get action. Me likey =)
.
I need to get some packing done tonight, as I am driving down to my mom’s tomorrow. I am going to chill down there for the weekend and then decide what I want to do before I leave for Vegas on Tuesday. I know I have mentioned it before, but it will be nice to be back in Vegas. I’m getting very sick of snow and ice up here, lol. O well…soon enough.
.
And on that note…I am going to go watch some TV and crash. I think I need to be up early tomorrow to ensure I get lots of day light driving and I have errands to run when I get to my mom’s. Hope all is well with yall!

Mar 21 – A Long Day Off…

Posted by SplitSuit On March - 21 - 2011

Even though today was a day off it didn’t feel like I actually any time off, lol. I got right to work once I woke up, shoveled for an hour, and worked for the rest of my hours awake. I meant to get some work done on a video (the draw vid I mentioned a little while back)…but I decided to spend some time working on other things instead. I have begun work on another site (not sure if I will actually have the time to continue it)…but we shall see. I just needed another project to release some right brain stress…and hopefully this does the job.
.

.
I have also been getting more poker in which has been feeling good. Made a vid for my proteges today, and have been trying to do at least 1 session per night (which will be easier in Vegas when the time zone is in my favor). I have been running pretty awfully (two different AA < KK aipf, and I've been getting 2-5 outted pretty liberally), but it happens. I will just keep grinding through it and keep hoping that I eventually run like the sun for a month or so =P
.
Everything else has been moving. I did 2 tank sessions with my students over the weekend, including my new favorite session called "INVERSE". The session forces students to look at hands from a different point of view which kind of reverse engineers the whole hand reading and default line process. I think I am going to throw in an extra one next month as well. I am also thinking about doing a public tank next month as well...as I am really enjoying the big group coaching sessions.
.
And with that, I am going to go do some more work. I need to do some outlining and business thinking. I also ran across an amazing playlist for those who liked The Glitch Mob song I put on an earlier post. Enjoy!: Awesome “The Glitch Mob” Playlist

Mar 18 – And St. Paddy’s Day Came And Went

Posted by SplitSuit On March - 18 - 2011

This was by far and away my most low-key St. Paddy’s day in a few years (probably since the one in 08 that I spent in an airport). O well. I got some poker played, got some phone calls taken care of, and just kicked it with some beers and reubens. I swear, I need to do something about this cap nonsense. I cannot for the life of me seem to run anywhere near good, lol. play well, get it in with edges, lose. the 100NL cap games look really good (quite a few fish and bad regs)…but I cannot seem to run anywhere near good there. o well, maybe in time, lol
.

.
I am also trying to put in a lil more volume. Played a lil 6max session and I want to start playing more. I just feel like I’m not doing enough with my time right now (which is even more true while I’m out east). I think I have found a nice balance with 3 tables of 6max RUSH. This allows me to play about 1K hands/hr with the ability to pause for important hands more easily. 6max is beginning to feel more solid to me…I just needed to get used to how players default range and default line create. I am going to probably put the majority of my volume this year in at 6max…which has actually only strengthened my FR game (or at least it seems so whenever i record a session there for my proteges)
.
Everything else is going alright. I feel a lil odd in that I haven’t left the house in almost a week (as I have no available car until next week). I also feel odd in that I don’t have much to do in terms of winning. No video games, no disc golf, no real anything. I actually think that is why my urge to play poker always comes when I am back east. O well. I have a couple more weeks here and then I am back in the desert.
.
And on that note I am going to go watch some TV and then pass out. Hope all is well with yall =)

Mar 14 – Happy Pi Day!

Posted by SplitSuit On March - 14 - 2011

Happy Pi Day everyone! (for those who are not nerds and don’t understand the reference, Pi = 3.14xxx). I wanted to make sure I put a blog post up today as I haven’t in a few days. Things have been alright, just getting things done and trying to stay afloat. I am slowly but surely dipping back into depression, which is making being productive tough. I refuse to play poker when I am knowingly feeling like this…yet I really want to work. *sigh* I decided to create a happiness flowchart so that I could logic myself out of this…I’ll find out tomorrow if it worked, lol
.

.
Feel free to use it =) I actually have a day off on Tuesday and I am debating what I want to do with it. I am giving myself 3 options. I can play poker for at least 4hrs, I can prep and record my next video, or I can write all day. Not really sure which I want to do…but I’ll just feel out based on how I feel tomorrow.
.
Everything else has been fine I guess. Nothing really that new, and I can’t wait to get back to Vegas. I need some sun and disc golf in my life, lol. I am also looking forward to the WSOP, and will probably do the funding junk next month at some point. and on that note, I am going to go find a movie to watch and crash. For those looking for an awesome song, here is one!:

Pay-Per-Hand Coaching! *NEW*

Posted by SplitSuit On March - 13 - 2011

Hey everyone. I have been debating whether or not to do this for some time now, and today seemed like as good a day as any to introduce it =) I am now going to be offering pay-per-hand coaching. For those of you that just want to get a quick line-check on a hand, or aren’t getting an answer you are happy with on the forums, I would be happy to help!
.
This service is great if you don’t want to spend the money on a an hour of coaching, but still need some quick assistance. Just ship me the hand, or hands, and I will give you analysis on them ASAP. The analysis will include thoughts on your bet sizing, actual line, best line considerations, and any other analysis that can help you understand the situation better. And to ensure that you get the most for your money, I can either do a the analysis in video or written form!
.
The pricing for this will be super reasonable. Just $3 per hand, $10 for 4 hands, or $24 for 10 hands. When compared to my normal $85/hr cost of coaching…this is a steal!
.

.
If you are interested in getting some hands analyzed, just send me an email at splitsuit@gmail.com with “PPH Coaching” in the title. My goal will be to get all analysis back within 24hrs (assuming my schedule will allow for it), as I want you to have your answers ASAP! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to let me know. Hope all is well!

Mar 10 – Back Coaching

Posted by SplitSuit On March - 10 - 2011

So I started working again today. I figured I would ease in with just a couple students today, and tomorrow I jump right back into 3-4 students/day, lol. I also put in my first session today in a week which felt a lil rusty. It never ceases to amaze me what a week off does to me, thus why I always play a lot lower when I do. I am loving 6max this year. It really allows me to use more of my skill-set and i think there is more room in upwards movement than FR
.

.
I have been kicking it a lot for the last few days. Catching up on all of the TV that I missed over the last few weeks (Californication, House, Community, etc.). Also deciding how much writing and such I want to do next week (as I am taking 2 days “off”). I think that I am going to do another premium video next week. I did a good draw tank with my protege program a couple weeks back, and I think i might use that as the baseline for this video. I think many people fuck up draws and because of that either put SCs into their range -EV’ly…or mess up their 3bet game postflop. We shall see.
.
I also went over to see my sister the other day. I hadn’t seen her since Xmas, so it was nice to catch up. I might go get a tattoo with her next week…but we shall see. On an unrelated note my depression has started to creep back in. Being here makes me realize how much I need to be in Vegas. All the gray skies, the weather, the ice here…just makes it impossible to be happy imo. It also doesn’t help that I can’t exercise, which I desperately need right now. Couple that with the allergies which force me to take meds each day that knock me down…it’s always rough being up here, lol
.
And on that note, I am going to go watch a movie and then crash out. Hope all is well!

Mar 7 – Back From NJ/NYC

Posted by SplitSuit On March - 7 - 2011

I got back from NJ/NYC earlier today, and finally got a lil quiet time so I could write up a blog post. I will try to write this up in as much order as possible.
.
Friday: I woke up early as I decided that I wanted to get a tattoo. I went down to the strip to get it done at my normal place (club tattoo in PH), but I didn’t like the quote they were giving me. Then jumped over to the tattoo shop at Hard Rock, and didn’t much appreciate the attitude of the artist there. I know I look young, but to effectively dismiss me for whatever reason is annoying and retarded imo.
.
I decided to say ‘fuck it’ and just head back to my house to pack up. After packing I met up with the guys at happy hour, and then headed down to the airport. I got there a few hours early so I spent the time writing a little bit. I was trying to create a mathematical formula for an odd decision matrix, but was failing to solidify it. O well…in time. I jumped on the plane a lil while later, had the entire row to myself, and got a few hours of sleep. sweet!
.

.
Saturday: I decided to take a limo from JFK down to Hoboken, which was a damn good decision imo. I forgot how crazy the NYC drivers are…but my driver was damn solid, lol. I got to my friends house just as she was getting back with green bagels. I didn’t realize that Hoboken St. Paddy’s day was a huuuuuuuge event. So I started the day with mild sleep, a single bagel, and a Red Dog for good (and nostalgic) measure.
.
Before I knew it games of “asshole”, flip cup, and flippong were underway. More college friends came through, more beer was consumed, and more ridiculous-ness ensued. Apparently there were very strict cops in the neighborhood (as we were constantly going back and forth between my friends apartments). There were $2K fines for public urination and public drinking (things I am unused to due to the strip, lol). Luckily, I got no fines on the day!
.
Most of the day, other than drinking, was spent eating and eating. I ate a retarded amount of pizza and cupcakes (as there was a cupcakes place a few blocks up the road). BEST…BUSINESS…EVER. WI don’t think we passed out till around 2a or so…but after such a long and rough day…it was welcomed.
.

.
Sunday: We all woke up around 11a and went over to a place for brunch (well, our first choice was fully packed, so we walked about 18 blocks to another place). I’ve forgotten how much I love delis. Had a nice meal with everyone, and then Jon and I bounced to NYC to meet up with Nigel. We ended up going to ground zero (which I had never seen before), and doing an insane amount of walking despite the insane rain (i was drenched by the time we got to dinner).
.
For dinner we went to a place called “WD-50″…a place Jon said was a top restaurant in NYC. We were blatantly out of place (probably due to our age and that we were all wearing hoodies), as we kept being asked if we worked in the industry and/or how the hell we found them (they didn’t even have a sign in front of the restaurant, lol). I ended up doing:

App: Peekytoe crab roll, salt ‘n vinegar chips, celery mayonnaise
.
Main: Pork loin, smoked paprika spaetzle, peach, marcona almond
.
And the entire dessert menu:
.
Licorice custard, sake sorbet, bartlett pear
Coffee ice cream, pecan, cocoa, argan oil
Milk chocolate, black bean, plantain, soy, peanut
Grapefruit curd, campari, hibiscus, sorrel
Soft meringue, passionfruit, banana, star anise
Chamomile, almond cake, dandelion root, apple, celery

.
I wasn’t very impressed with my main…but the desserts were epic. By far and away some of the most creative desserts i have had. Also the most expensive meal i have had without alcohol ($125 w/o any alcohol)…but cool experience none the less. def suggest it if you are in the area and want to try something new.
.

.
Monday: We got to back Nigel’s late on sunday night, played some Red Dead, and then passed out. Woke up at 1p and then headed up to meet Jon’s dad. I got to drive Nigel’s Evo which was an awesome experience. I have never driven a car with that kind of control and power before…and I throughly enjoyed it. I sadly only got it up to about 116mph…but I blame a lil highway traffic (and also my more timid driving in a new area with a new car). got to Jon’s, then got picked up by my dad, and am now chilling in NH about to crash out.
.

.
The rest of the week is pretty jam packed with students…and i also want to get some more writing done. Hope all is going well with yall…and sorry for the long post =)

March 3 – Vacation Has Begun

Posted by SplitSuit On March - 3 - 2011

I started my vacation yesterday, and I will say this…I could get used to this, lol. I played a few hours of disc golf yesterday, enjoyed the sun and fresh air, and just kicked it the entire day. Also decided to buy some new shoes (as I am pretty sure that I wore the sole out of my adidas’s)…and hopefully these will last me more than a few months. My feet have been killing me lately while running, which is making it less enjoyable to go the gym. O well…hopefully this helps =)
.

.
Today I am just getting some last minute stuff done (cleaning, laundry, packing, etc.) and kicking it. I think I am going to bring “Stranger Than Fiction”, “It’s Kind Of A Funny Story”, “The Social Network”, and “The Town” with me on my iphone. I also got a ton of new music. DLed a bunch of old Juelz Santana stuff, the new Lupe disc, and the new Radiohead album as well. I thought the Radiohead disc was alright…but really only enjoyed “Little By Little”. Maybe I will enjoy it all later down the line
.
I have been playing a fair chunk of scrabble recently as well. I was undefeated for about 2 weeks straight (averaging a game/day)…and recently lost 2 games. It is always tough to say whether I lose due to skill, laziness, or luck. For instance, in the two games I lost, I only got 1 power tile (of the available 8 (4/game)). That automatically puts me at a roughly -35pt deficit per game…and it can be even worse v opponent’s who know how to use the power tiles well. But…I can’t say that it never works in my favor. For instance, here is my favorite scrabble game to date. I obvi had to luckrack like woah to do this…but I thought it was cool as hell, lol:
.

I opened with “Thins”
He played “Surf”
I played “Yipe”
He played “Giant”
I played “Crawling”
He quit

.
Quickest game, and most murderous, that I have ever played, lol. I will probably play a ton on the plane…as i tend to do. I have a scrabble program that actually shows me the nut word to play, which is nice. However, it is one of those things where the nut word is, by their definition, the most points/turn. When in actuality, there are times when playing that word could easily be terrible dependent on where on the board it is played. For instance, I have had to not play bingos because the points made in the bingo weren’t enough to make up for the possible points lost if I open a TW or something. And on that note…I will stop being a nerd about Scrabble strategy =)
.
I am going to go finish packing and probably play some video games. Hope all is well with yall!
.
