June 29 – WTF Morning?

Posted by SplitSuit On June - 29 - 2011

FTP is apparently boned now too. I’m so happy I mentally wrote-off the couple of grand I had on there. I swear…if I ever wake up to good news…I am throwing a party. And you all are invited =)

And The Trend Continues

Posted by SplitSuit On June - 22 - 2011

So sadly not much has changed. I am still working my ass off, and decided to put more work on my plate by starting SNAXX, which is a blog-esque section of Greatest Playlist. I just wanted to start getting more content on GP, and start having some fun doing some creative-ish writing. Overall it is fun so far, but it is taking a lot more time to add extra posts on top of the normal playlist creation.
.
WTF is SNAXX
.
Work has also been busy. Couple that with my days off are now being filled with students, recording/editing videos, and writing articles when applicable (just wrote a 1000 word article yesterday for an emailer). I’m trying to plan out a long vacation in August (going to Chicago for a weekend, then bounce out to Boston for a few weeks to chill with family and such, and then back to Vegas). I just need a change of scenery as I am getting antsy again…which happens far too regularly, lol
.
I don’t think I’ve done anything that exciting over the last week. Some gym lifts, some weight loss, some attempting (but failing) to relax…but not much else. I will say this though, now that I am working so much more, I have a new appreciation for my office set up. My wrists would usually be killed after this much work, but they are actually feeling just fine which is awesome. Spending a few hundred extra bucks on an office is an expense everyone should make imo (and hello extra tax write off!)
.
With that said, I am going to go get some more playlists done for GP. I just finished a video for TPB earlier today as well, so look forward to that being released soon. I did an INVERSE session, which is a different way of looking at hand histories that digs a bit deeper and is a bit more interesting imo. I also made sure not to make it too long, as long HH review vids can be way too daunting. That being said, hope all is well with everyone!

June 15 – A Very Long Day

Posted by SplitSuit On June - 15 - 2011

I officially work too hard, lol. Yesterday and today were both “days off” in which I did 3hrs of coaching yesterday, and 7hrs of work today. I ended up doing 5hrs of video production today and made a bunch of playlists for GP…and am tired as hell. I wonder what a real day off actually feels like. Must be absurd, lol. I was also hoping to get some disc golf in today, as the sun has been staying out until like 8p, but sadly it was too windy. Sadface.
.

.
GP is actually coming along well. I have quite a few top 10 ranks on Google (mind you this is after 3 months of being up), 2 top ones, and traffic is increasing slowly but surely. I think I finally have an idea for what I want to do for YouTube on it, although I don’t know when I’ll have time to actually implement it. Fingers crossed some time opens up and I get to cranking on that aspect of the social stuff. I am still getting used to all of this social media stuff, so it’ll take some time, lol.
.
Poker stuff is going alright. I am debating really diving into my next book and just finishing it. Students are picking back up slowly as well which is driving my motivation to do it (although the relationship to time availability makes it LOL). I also finished my 9th video for ThePokerBank all about beating fish…and those vids seem to be getting some love which is nice. I’m also starting to get my grind bug back…but I still don’t want to play much live. O the dilema…
.
And on that note, I am going to get some sleep. I am going to be down at the WSOP tomorrow if anyone wants to say hi. I am the white dude walking around my SplitSuit logo on my hoodie (can’t miss me, lol). I think I might be down at the WSOP a little more often for the next month or so…which will probably certainly make me want to play more live. We shall see =) Hope all is well!

June 8 – Back From Denver

Posted by SplitSuit On June - 8 - 2011

So Denever was a really good time. As I mentioned in my previous post I went out there for a long weekend just to kick it and see some Dispatch concerts. If you ever get a chance to see a show at Red Rocks…do it! Officially the best venue I have ever been to, and just an awesome experience. And it always helps that Dispatch puts on like 3hr long shows and sounds 100% epic live. 100% suggest seeing them!
.

.
Other than concerts we also played some disc golf. Played the Bad Lands and White Hawk, which were both really cool courses. Bad Lands was a pretty long course with some challenging shots (such as having a to clear a lake). My only issue was the that is wasn’t super logical in finding the next hole, and was pretty poorly marked. I also played like hell which didn’t help matters at all, lol. White Hawk was also great, except that I lost 2 discs in spots where I never would have had I known the course better. There were many spots where you couldn’t tell there was a sick drop off into a creek and then *splash*. O well, good times none the less.
.
Everything else is going well. GP is actually starting to generate more traffic and actually make some money (and I could not stress the “some” part enough, lol). I’m still having fun with it, which is why I’m still spending time and effort on it. I have found so many extra songs from creating playlists that I consider it a win in and of itself. I just cant wait till I have more traffic that I can play with and test against. I love learning too much, lol.
.
Also, I just wanted to say one thing as I can’t comment on Amazon. Someone rated my book 1 star complaining that I have stated to have made $110K playing live but only having $1,700 on cardplayer (which tracks live MTTs). Are you daft? Did you know that people can play cash games live? Did you also know that I wrote a book on cash games and not tournaments? Don’t rate down my products, or insinuate that I am a liar, if you are too stupid to realize this. Seriously.
.
And on that note, I am going to go play some Halo and relax for a bit. I need to be up early to start prepping some video making. Hope all is well!

June 2 – Post #301

Posted by SplitSuit On June - 2 - 2011

Damn I’ve written a lot of posts for this site, lol. Things have been alright lately, although I feel there hasn’t been much to blog about. My mom, her BF, and my sister came into town over the weekend so I got to see them. Did dinner with them two nights, showed them my place, and dropped them off at the airport early on Sunday. Was nice to see some family out in Vegas (versus going East coast), so hopefully that trend keeps up, lol.
.
GreatestPlaylist has also been going pretty well. I am already averaging more than 2K vists/month, and have been nailing some of the keywords I’ve been targeting. The only issue is that the site is so damn social and I’ve been lazy as far as promoting it that way. I’ve been so focused on content that I’ve been unable to do the social pushing and link building that I need to do. Hopefully in time I’ll fix it and that way I can really see how much volume I can get. I still don’t give a fuck about conversions…just traffic and testing/learning things =) But if you are looking for a chill playlist…look no further!
.

.
I hinted at this slightly in the forums but I am having a bit of an identity crisis since BF. I went out on a date with a girl last week and she asked me what I do for work. For the first time in about 7 years I didn’t really know how to respond. The bulk of my income no longer comes from playing, coaching, or anything poker related…so I can’t really say “poker player”, “poker coach”, or anything like that. And being that poker has been such a large part of my identity for so many years, I’m kind of struggling to figure out how to compartmentalize it all. I suppose time will fix it, but it’s still a very odd feeling.
.
And on that note, I’m going to go crash. I have a flight at 7a tomorrow to get up to Denver for the Dispatch concerts all weekend, which means I need to be up by like 4a (which is going to so suuuuck). But it should be fun to go play disc golf at some new places, see a new concert, and eat as Casa Bonita. And then hopefully I’ll get out to Chicago at some point this summer as well, along with the east coast. Hurray traveling! Hope all is well!
