August 30 – Dizzle

Posted by SplitSuit On August - 30 - 2010

Finished my proofing today which feels awwwwwwwwwesome. I got it off to an editor today and hopefully I should get some good feedback before doing the publisher race. Feels so good to have finally finished this project as it is the biggest one I have completed since college. And that will be enough from me about the book for tonight…it’s party time now =)
.

Also, in case you didn’t see over on the sidebar I put a newsletter email collector thing. So if you are interested in getting updates about things like the book, coaching, free strat, etc., just pop your email in there and I’ll be sending out some newsletters from time to time. Not sure why I am just now starting to do this, but w/e =). I think I am going to make a few videos while I am on vacation (because I have more isolated time on vacation), so there should be news in no time at all.
.
I also did a podcast last night that I will probably release in the next few days. A friend/student had the idea to interview me and ask me questions, so I just flowed off whatever questions he had. I liked the format as it kept me on my toes, and hopefully it’s interesting enough for yall. So I’ll give it another listen and make sure it’s quality enough for everyone.
.
Past that, life is the usual. I am flying out to Boston tomorrow, so I packing up and prepping music/vids for my iPhones. I am very much looking forward to vacation, although it will be a bit stressful as everything happens so fast. I am also going to down to NYC on Thursday/Friday to hang out with some college friends which should be awesome. A perfectly timed vacation if I do say so myself =) And on that note…im off to finish my packing and sleep. Hope all is well, and enjoy this sick ass random video I found today:

August 27 – MGM Pokering

Posted by SplitSuit On August - 27 - 2010

I am closing in slowly but surely. I have proofed over 1/2 the book, and have about 7 chapters left of proofing (of course they are the most technical and the longest, but that is besides the point, lol). My goal is still to finish all of the work before I leave on vacation. So I have until Tuesday to do it. I have faith in myself =)
.
The other day I went down to the strip to meet up with Kurt and Mpethy. Was very cool interacting with them together, as I always love to see how a group of poker players react, especially with age differentials. We pretty much just chatted about standard poker junk like polarized CBing and DB stuff. We did dinner at Hooters and then went over to MGM to donk around at some 200NL. I hadn’t played at MGM in about a year, so it was nice to get back over there.
.

mgm poker room

Mpethy and I started a table, and then Kurt joined us after. I ended up getting the God-seat on Mpethy (although to be fair, he did say that he wanted seat 1…so obvi I just took seat 2 =) ). Was a fun game actually. Ended up getting a full 2 orbits of straddles, and then convinced the Canadian on my left to do so dead calls/straddles after. So it is safe the say, the game was friendly and silly. I ended up running pretty well. I overlimped 86s, the Canadian raised to $12 and everyone called back to me, and I obliged. The flop came 883r. Checked around to the Canadian who bet for $20, the calling station in 10 is the only caller and I raise up to $53. The Canadian grumbles and shoves and the station folds. I hold against JJ (either way in this hand I make at least 1 stack, which is lovely).
.
A few hands later I raise 99 from UTG to $6. 2 callers to Kurt who calls from MP. 5 way to a flop of 944 I bet for $16, folds to Kurt who raises to $44 leaving himself about $72 back. It folds to me and it was my option. I figured that if I called here it is totally obvious that I am never folding and thus he never continues his bluffs. But if I shove, I at least have the possiblity of looking some sort of light. I shipped and he snaps with AA. I was a lil shocked that he didn’t 3bet it preflop, and we talked about the hand after the session. Overall made about 2BI on the day, so no complaints for a lil bumming around poker.
.
Past that, Kurt asked me what the “hook” on my book was…as in what makes my book different from the other 400 on the market. A very valid question and I think the only way I can answer it is that the book doesn’t give X play and say to go use it. It is more of a POC (point of contact) book that goes through the decision process of each line at the point of the hand you are. So how to think about PF actions to build a turn check/call line or what goes into making a semi-bluff on the flop as opposed to calling and drawing for cheap. I really did my best to go through spots with a totally comprehensive eye and talk about what goes into every decision and what contorts our line creation.
.
And with that said, I am off to proof more. I am tired, but I have another 30 pages to go today. Hope all is well!

August 23 – The Proofing Begins…

Posted by SplitSuit On August - 23 - 2010

The last few days flew by. I ended up taking the rest of Friday off and went over to see “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” at Red Rock with Kuge and Chris. Good flick with a very ADD-friendly cinematic style. Enjoyed that, then went home and passed out. Spent most of Saturday just proofing my book. Ended up making it through about 7 chapters, although they were the short ones. I still have about 110 pages to proof before I ship it to a few people for second level proofing.
.

.
It feels good to be getting towards the end of this project. This is the first big project I have started and come very close to finishing since college (though the biggest projects back then were like 70 page papers). So I am very proud of myself for focusing long enough to do it. And coupled with that I have gotten my motivation to start playing more poker (and also some extra time)…so I have been putting in some sessions and enjoying it. Running like absolute hell already, but I am pretty sure I am destined to run worse than most everyone ever (4% set% for the month!)
.
I ended up meeting up Mpethy last night (and his friend Joe). Was nice to finally meet him in person, being that we have been working on a professional level for almost 2 years now. So odd when you think about how much business you do with people who you have never even met in person. Did some dinner over at Noodle Asia and then bummed at some 200NL. Ended up making $1 as it was a very boring and card dead session. O well.
.
Apparently Kurt might be coming into town soon as well…so we might do a “green team” meetup. Hopefully he gets in soon though because I am off to NH in a week. And on that note…im off to get some more work done so I can hopefully be 100% done with the book by vacation time. Hope all is well!

August 18 – Busted My Knee

Posted by SplitSuit On August - 18 - 2010

I am such a donk. Was playing disc golf on Monday and ended up smashing my knee up pretty badly. I was taking a drive off 13 and stepped too far foward and ended up landing on a rock, knee first. I have a lovely bruise, and walking the last couple days has been pretty rough. Ice and Ibuprofrin have been my friend. Even went to the doc, but he said if it still hurts like hell to come in in a few days and get an Xray. So hopefully I’m healed before that, lol.
.
I am SOOOOOOOOO close to done with this book. I am just finishing up my End Game and CRing, which should be done by tomorrow. I meant to only make CRing a short chapter, but just the “facing a CR” section is like 6 pages already, lol. O well, it is pretty damn comprehensive, so hopefully the reader gets the most out of it rather than me cutting corners. I am soooo looking forward to my vacation at the end of the month. I am in dire need of one.
.
Also, I have been listening to this playlist a done. In the event you are looking for relaxing songs to grind work to…enjoy:

.
And on that note…im going to go crash out. I’m insanely tired as I have been up till 3a every morning. Hope all is well!

August 15 – A Damn Good Weekend

Posted by SplitSuit On August - 15 - 2010

This weekend was solid. On Friday I finished some writing and then Chris and I went down to the strip to pick up Powers. Powers had never played disc golf before, so we headed over to Sunset and met up with Kuge as well. It was fun to play on a new course, even though it wasn’t very challenging imo. We played best-disc doubles and Chris and I broke even. Not terrible considering it was new. Though I will admit it is a cool course with the airport next door so the planes come in super low over the course.
.

.
That night we went out drinking over at Blondies. I was DD being I owed a drive to both Kuge and Jon, so playing pong sober was a tough experience. For some odd reason Powers and Jon wanted to go play poker so we walked over to Caesars and bummed at a 300NL table. Played with the drunkest guy I’ve ever met in Vegas, and overall had a good time. However, I did call an older guy a nit which resulted in him threatening to kill me. Laughs were had, lol.
.
Saturday I didn’t do much. Had a student, attempted and failed at writing, and then did the gym and sushi that night. I love midnight sushi so damn much. Woke up this morning super late (two late nights in a row with early students will do that), and got a lot of writing done. I finished up the Barreling chapter, and only have to write the CR and End Game chapters before my rough draft is fully done! The home coming stretch of this project has been brutal, but so far I am very happy with my progress. Hopefully I finish it up tomorrow or the next day. And then it will just be the tedious proofing and such.
.

.
And with that said, I am insanely tired. I missed lunch (damn adderall) and have to be up early tomorrow for coaching. So hopefully I can pass out quickly and start the week on a solid sleep. Hopefully all is well with yall.

August 13 – A List Of Randomness

Posted by SplitSuit On August - 13 - 2010

Sorry for being quiet this week. I have been pretty busy with things and everytime I sit down at night to write a post I fail due to tiredness. This post is just going to be a bunch of randomness…so hopefully you enjoy posts like that =)
.
Random things I have been doing:
- Playing lots of disc golf (about 2.5hrs/day)
- I have been recording some disc golf drives. It is helping me see where I need to improve in my form
- I might post some of the vids if people are interested
- I only have 2 chapters left in my book
- I have a section on balancing which is driving me nuts to write
- I figured out how to put my xbox HD in my other xbox. win.
- I went to another comedy club. Only 1/5 comics was any good
- I played 5cPLO8 tonight. Augie owns my soul forever (and I went 0/4 in 15+ out draws)
- I met Daniel Negraneau for the first time
- I need a 50hr nap
.

.
- I have been thinking a lot about chaos theory and it’s relation to poker. I might put out a big blog post soon with my initial thoughts (because I need to write in order to get thoughts to progress)
- I think my “Creative Line Composition” will be the coolest chapter of my book by a long shot
- I run like shit when I shortstack. It must be God trying to tell me something
- I have been cooking with more vegetables. I forgot how amazing they can be with eggs
- Powers is in town. Drinking begins in less than 24hrs
- I also plan on adding 20lbs to all of my blast weights in the next 30days
.
That is enough randomness for me. I shall return later, hopefully with a solid article on chaos theory =) Hope all is well!

August 8 – Very Frustrated…

Posted by SplitSuit On August - 8 - 2010

I hate days when I want to murder everything. Today is one of those days, and I can’t fully figure out why. I got about 6 or 7 pages written today, 14 written yesterday, and am *almost* fully done with my rough draft!. I ended up finishing “Turn/River Adjustments” and “Creative Line Composition” yesterday which felt great. And I only have to finish 4betting, CRing, VBing, and Barreling. I left the more technical stuff for the end (as I dislike writing technical stuff the most)…so now I just have to grind through it.
.
My Xbox also busted this morning, which is fantastic. Fucking RRoD for no damn reason. So the entire day I have wanted to just play video games and relax, I haven’t even been able to do that. O well. I have a session with a protege in a little while, and then ill crash after that. Hoping to start this week with a much better attitude. My goal is to finish the rough draft and then start editing. After that, I should be ready to start firing out manuscripts and seeing what happens. Should be exciting stuff.
.

.
Also, the numbers are in for the first week of the planning video. Turns out 300 people downloaded it and about 600 people watched it on the site. Not bad for first week numbers, and I think it blew my poker stove video out of the water (for first week numbers anyway). I also got some nice compliments about the video and it seemed that people appreciated the number of hours I put into making it so visual. I love when people learn and appreciate at the same time =)
.
And on that note, I’m going to go eat something real quick. The diet is going well, and I did the gym 3 times last week, which was just fine. I finally worked my muscle base back up a little bit so I have been blasting weight. I haven’t worked out like this since high school, but it feels damn good. Very addicting as well, but there are worse things. And here is a list of random shit I have been up to:
.
- I played in my first disc golf tourny. I ended up scratching, which I’m fine with
- I bought a “River”. It is a sick disc
- I hung out with a college friend, “14″, the other day. Nice to catch up
- I still love Naked Fish more than anything
- I have convinced my dad to get a tattoo, lol
- Powers is coming out to Vegas next weekend
- I am sketching out my next tattoo and looking forward to getting it
- I cut my dosage of adderall down and it has been much better for me
.
Alright, that’s enough random stuff from me. Also, I added 2 new blogs to the roll on the right. Check out chipstar’s blog and also the Aussie poker players’ blog. And on that note, I’m off. Hope all is well!

August 5 – In Motion

Posted by SplitSuit On August - 5 - 2010

I have been super busy lately. I have been going to the gym just about every other day (1hr of lifting, and about 15min of cardio), and got my first gym membership in about 2yrs. I am actually starting to get some definition back, and oddly enough have already lost about 8lbs. Due to changing my diet (cutting about 800cal/day out), increasing my light-range cardio (1-2 disc golf games/day), and gym, it makes sense. I don’t really even care about my weight…just care about how I look and feel. I am excited to see how things look after a month or so.
.

null

.
I’ve also been going out more. Went out last night and met up with a student. Neither of us were that hungry so we just played 200NL and talked the whole time. Was oddly enough very relaxing, lol. Ended up making a few bucks and making this older guy angry as shit. The hand was simple. Guy who kept limp/folding limped from the HJ, I blind iso’d to $11, the BB calls and we go HU to an Ah 6h 3d board. He checks, I CB for $11 (still blind), he stall calls. The turn comes an 8c, he checks. I check my cards and am oddly confused to see Ad6d. So I fire out for $28, he calls. River is a 5s and he check/calls a $47 bet. He lift-tilt punches the table and steams off. I was very confused, but it was nice to actually win a pot.
.
After that I bounced over to a comedy club with Kuge and Josh. Was interesting to say the least. I am beginning to see how stand up works, and am pretty sure that I could manufacture a good routine if I put some time into it. I just understand how the timing works (and doesn’t), what topics work (and which don’t), etc. Who knows…maybe if I get a free bit of time I will see if I could build a winning stand up routine =P
.

null

.
Past that, life is good. The book is coming along (although the VB chapter just keeps groooowing and grooooooowing). I won’t even say I have a goal for it (I do, but I won’t tell you), because I’ve missed my last 9 goals on when I’d like it to be done, lol. In time. Past that, the Planning video seems to be getting a lot of views, and people seem to be liking it. So hopefully some of yall have gotten something out of it other than “I don’t want to fold AK preflop” =) And on that note, im off to sleep. hope all is well!

July 30 – Laughs

Posted by SplitSuit On July - 30 - 2010

The last few days have been solid. Got some coaching done, picked up a few new students, and got a little framing done for my big chapters (VBing and barreling). I have also been hitting the gym more (will be getting an LVAC membership because Jon is going more and going to the gym with a friend is the best way to continue going). I am incredibly sore today in the calves, but I suppose running at an 8min/mi when I haven’t ran in months will do that. Will certainly be nice when I trim down a bit and get a lil more build, as I haven’t had that in years.
.
We’ve also been going out more at night. Hit up a comedy club on Monday which was a total failure. Apparently kuge didn’t realize that places in Vegas can go out of business in like 22 minutes, so the place he had planned was a bust. We just went out to a bar near his place and talked poker and life for a few hours. Then we went out to an open-mic tonight (kuge is obviously doing so scoping out of possible places to perform). No lie…I was super impressed. For an open-mic, it was a great show. Very talented people, and even the MC was hilarious. The only sad thing was that like 14 people showed up, lol. But it was cool as we talked with a few of them after and just relaxed.
.

null

.
Everything else has been going well. Have been getting out to play disc golf most everyday and enjoying the blazing hot 105* rounds. I have been playing like shit, but I am also tweaking with my shot and trying to snap better, which I have been doing poorly forever. It should help me finally break 400ft on the drives, but so far it is just acting as a pain in the ass. O well. Alright, Im going to go pass out. I am incredibly tired and need to be up early so I can get a few hours of writing done before my student. Hope all is well
