New SplitSuit Video Series

Posted by SplitSuit On November - 14 - 2011

As I mentioned the other day, I finally finished my new project! I am proud to introduce The 100K Micro-Stakes System: Crushing 50NL In 2012 to the world. After a couple weeks of research and a month of endless organizing, recording, editing, and re-editing…my new 6hr long video series is ready to rock. This comprehensive poker video series is perfect for live poker & online games, full ring & 6max, and is ready to help you crush in 2012!

New SplitSuit Poker Video Series

This video series is jam-packed with 12 videos, 3 bonus videos, and everything you need to improve your winrate. The entire video series clocks in at just over 6 hours, and is sure to invigorate your poker game and revamp your thought process. So what topics are covered in this series? Read the entire table of contents (complete with runtimes and video synopsis) below:

1. PREFLOP BASICS (Runtime: 26 minutes)

In order to improve in poker you need to have a solid foundation, and this video will build that foundation. We discuss the power of position, opening hands, and discuss stack sizes (both in terms of what we should use and how to adjust to other stack sizes). There is also a solid section dealing with SPR, a powerful concept that can help us visualize and create lines preflop and postflop.

2. COLD CALLING (Runtime: 28 minutes)

Calling raises preflop can be confusing, but this video aims to simplify this important action. We review various hand types, including pocket pairs and broadway hands, and the variables that go into deciding how to call them preflop.

3. ISOLATING (Runtime: 23 minutes)

Attacking limpers is a great way to pad your winrate…but knowing how to do so can be a bit complex. This video reviews isolating the most common limpers, and delves into the hand ranges to use and the ideas to keep in mind. We also go a step further and look at multi-way pots and consider the appropriate ranges to raise with.

4. 3BETTING VALUE HANDS (Runtime: 16 minutes)

What is a value 3bet, and how do we know it is actually for value? This video answers those questions and more. We also discuss 4betting and 5betting for value, creating a very clear framework to understand this valuable preflop action.

5. 3BETTING BLUFFS (Runtime: 23 minutes)

We aren’t dealt very many monsters…but that doesn’t mean we can’t make money with those junky hands! This video explores 3betting, 4betting, and 5betting bluff hands. We look at some basic math, explore components like sizing and blockers, and discuss which players to abuse (and how!)

6. BEING DYNAMIC PREFLOP (Runtime: 19 minutes)

Being dynamic is crucial for being at the top of today’s games. This video looks at various ways to break away from default actions and ranges. We explore different plays like aggressive stealing, cold calling with evil intentions, and even back-raising. If you are looking for some extra spots to create preflop profits…this is a great place to start!

7. HAND CLASSIFICATION (Runtime: 22 minutes)

The initial step in playing a solid postflop strategy is classifying your hand strength. This video reviews the 4 basic hand classifications and default ideas with each. Start classifying your hands better while having better ideas on playing them postflop!

8. BLUFF CBs (Runtime: 26 minutes)

We tend to miss flops often, so knowing how to bluff them is crucial for making more money. In this video we pull out Flopzilla and start visualizing how various ranges hit various flops. We also review details like bet sizing, elasticity, equity, and correctly estimating how often our opponent will fold.

9. FLOP PLAY (Runtime: 28 minutes)

There are only 3 cards on a flop, and yet endless possibilities! This video goes through a collection of situations, from simple to complicated, and reviews correct lines and mindsets. Everything from playing value hands to floating is covered in this in-depth video.

10. TURN & RIVER PLAY (Runtime: 25 minutes)

Turns and rivers can be very confusing, but this video simplifies them. We review a number of common situations and discuss optimal lines and thought processes. By simply classifying our hand, and looking at the correct information, these complicated streets can become very profitable.

11. 3BET POTS POSTFLOP (Runtime: 24 minutes)

Whether we 3bet for value or as a bluff, playing these pots postflop can be tough. This video goes through each hand classification in a 3bet pot, and discusses lines and ideas for each. We notice that by simply asking ourselves what a bet can accomplish, and looking at some basic math, these situations can be easy as pie.

12. A COLLECTION OF POSTFLOP HANDS (Runtime: 24 minutes)

Who can get enough postflop strategy? This collection of postflop hands brings up spots that weren’t covered in any of the other postflop videos, and fills in some of the gaps. By looking at various examples against various player types, this video will get you visualizing postflop in a more profitable manner.

13. PLAYER TYPES *BONUS* (Runtime: 20 minutes)

Our opponents can usually fit into one of a few player type categories, and this video reviews each one. We discuss each player type’s basics ideas, mistake propensities, and simple ways to identify them. From there we create default strategies and adjustments for beating them.

14. POKER MATH *BONUS* (Runtime: 22 minutes)

There is a lot of math in poker, but the math is actually quite simple. This video breaks down the crucial math necessary to understand poker, and then takes it a step further. We review everything from basic odds to EV equations, all while reviewing how to use this math for real poker decisions. Whether you need to learn poker math or simply need a refresher…this video is sure to help you out!

15. POKER ESSENTIALS *BONUS* (Runtime: 32 minutes)

This video touches on a bunch of concepts that didn’t fit well into other videos. We review a collection of personal topics, such as bankroll management and creating a poker plan, and various strategies to employ. Other topics like tilt management and table/seat selection are covered, as are my own personal ideas and strategies for them.

As you can see, every necessary concept is covered. These videos also use a wide variety of teaching styles, from using poker software like PokerStove & Flopzilla, to reviewing poker theory in the classroom, to running through hands in the replayer. I also use my unique presentation style that uses a heavy emphasis on graphics and on-screen text to ensure that both audio and visual learners are accounted for! Wondering what one of these videos might look like? Here is the first video in the series, in its entirety, for your viewing pleasure:

.

While I’ve done some of these concept videos in the past, each video in The 100K Micro-Stakes System takes a fresh and comprehensive look at the subject matter. If you have any leaks in your game, or just feel that your winrate isn’t as high as it could be…this video series is a must. And with a 90 day money-back guarantee…you can’t go wrong. This is my newest product. It is a 45 minute video that goes over 3 betting. It covers the basic math (thinking about O-Range v C-Range), which HUD stats are useful and how, and also sizing considerations. We also review the composition of a good 3bet, including the players we want to abuse, the situations that work best, and also the hand textures we prefer with regards to polarized vs. depolarized 3bet ranges. If you are struggling on 3betting, or just need a refresher course to clean up some details, this video is for you!
.
The introductory price will be $29.99. This is significantly cheaper than my normal $85/hr coaching rate, and if used properly, should pay for itself (with interest!) in no time at all. New Method To Share Screens

Posted by SplitSuit On November - 24 - 2009

I know this will be a pain in the ass for those that have been using Skype+ Teamviewer with me, and I apologize. Teamviewer gives you X ammount of hours before they charge you for it, and oddly enough, I have gone over that limit this year, lol. (and rather than pay $400 for it…I’d rather find a free alternative)

So go here: http://www.mikogo.com

and download it. Hopefully this option works well. Make sure you go to “Settings”, then “Preferences” tab, and select “Max Speed” from the Quality/Speed section.

Sorry for the pain in the ass =(

September 10 – I Got Some Compliments!

Posted by SplitSuit On September - 10 - 2009

Got a few compliments this week that I wanted to post up:

“This review is a bit late in the making and for that I apologize. Several weeks ago, I decided to try my hand at full-ring nlhe and I hired James for 3 sessions to get me started.

I eventually decided that full-ring nlhe wasn’t for me, but I can confidently say that if I had wanted to continue with it (or if I ever want to go back to it), I would sign-up with James in a heartbeat.

SplitSuit was very helpful and very professional. He was on time for all of our sessions. He took the time to find out where I was in my poker development, in general, and my full-ring nlhe development specifically. He was then able to effectively coach me in areas that proved to have a very positive impact on my winrate. He helped me with my preflop game as well as my postflop game. He helped me with my HUD set up, with table selection and with multi-tabling considerations. His demeanor was always calm, yet upbeat and he had a good sense of humor as well. I ended as a pretty big winner at both 25nl and 50nl and so, my not continuing with full-ring nlhe did not have anything to do with my ability to beat the game or in James’ ability to effectively instruct.

He was also available for a couple of email questions that I had inbetween sessions. Overall, I would recommend James as a great value to small stakes players looking for a little help.”

“Anyway, that one tip has been huge, so I wanted to make sure to thank you for that and for all the coaching you’ve provided. I’m a MUCH better player thanks to your coaching sessions”
-Doug

I love getting solid feedback from students (past and current). I don’t mean this post to be bragadocious (although I suppose it is impossible to not come off that way)…but I enjoy the feedback and wanted to have a post for it

Hope all is well, and I will write a more normal blog post after I get some coaching and grinding done today

What To Look For In A Poker Coach

Posted by SplitSuit On May - 9 - 2009

There are many things you should be looking for when choosing a coach. First and foremost, is this a person who is a winning player? Nobody who is losing, especially over a large sample size, should be coaching others. They may have some nice ideas, but the cliché “those who cannot do; teach” doesn’t apply all that well in poker.

Next, you want to make sure that this person works well with you. That they are patient, articulate, and work well with your learning style. You also want to make sure that this person is available for the times that work best for you. If you work during the day, and can only do coaching sessions at night, and they work all night, u might want to find a different coach or different hour set to work with. Lastly, you really want to make sure that goals are lined up. You want a coach who not only understands what your poker needs are (let’s face it, some people need work on the whole package, while others just need certain tweaks), and is able to focus on that. Having a coach who teaches two levels underneath you is as useless as one who teaches advanced topics to a beginner.

Keeps these tips in mind when selecting a poker coach. Coaching should be a pleasant and eye-opening experience. If you need any help in this area, or wish to speak further, please feel free to email me at SplitSuit@gmail.com.

What To Expect From Coaching

Posted by SplitSuit On May - 9 - 2009

This can be split into 2 parts; what you will be expected to have for coaching, and what to expect from coaching.

1. What you will be expected to have for coaching:

Mikogo
Skype
– A headset
– PokerTracker/HEM (or similar tracking software)
– Time to play
– The ability to think and be open minded

2. What to expect from coaching:

– To gain a greater grasp on concepts
– Increased profitability
– Ability to plan through hands, hand read better, and bet-size

*Please do not expect to become a top-tier player overnight*

While every student comes with their own background, strengths, and weaknesses, it’s not plausible to believe that any player can become a top-tier player after one session (no coach can truthfully offer this). Coaching is a way to detect leaks, patch them up, and increase knowledge overtime. Now certain players will need less time than others to get to their “goal-level” (the level they wish to get to with the help of coaching), but 1 session usually is nowhere near enough. Be prepared to learn the intricacies of the game, increase knowledge in all areas, and become a winning full-ring player!

If you have any questions, or wish to set-up a coaching session, please feel free to email me at SplitSuit@gmail.com.

First Poker Coaching Session

Posted by SplitSuit On May - 9 - 2009

The first coaching session with me is a very busy one. We will go for 1 hour, and it’s basically me trying to get a better picture of you as a poker player. We will review your PokerTracker/HEM, both in terms of stats and how you use your HUD, your general play-style, and talk a little bit about yourself so I understand your goals in poker. This is the only session where I 100% would like to ghost you for a small session. I like to watch you play for about 20-40 minutes, just so I can see some real-time thought process. This alone will generally give me a good idea on types of learning sessions that need to happen in the future.

As with any type of learning, there will be homework. Don’t worry, it’s not hard! I like to begin all sessions with a 3 hand review and general review of the last coaching session. So really, your only homework is to play poker and remember a few hands (see, not that bad, right?). This is a general overview of how I do the standard first session (obviously it can be re-worked if you feel something else would work better for you). If you have any questions, or wish to set-up a coaching session, please feel free to email me at SplitSuit@gmail.com.
